    Hi Kirby, The back of the tray was not dented. However it does have a little inward curve in the center where the signature is. This is as it was made. If this was a dent, the hand enamelling would be cracked/chipped or missing. Please see the second photo in the listing. When I mailed it, there was no such flaws. All the best, Audrey
