AWESOME BOOK! PLENTY OF ROMANCE AND SUSPENSE!^^
This is an excellent book! I heartily recommend it to anyone who loves romance, action, suspense, justice, and happy endings all in just one book. I was skeptical about reading the book, but when I read the book description/summary, I was captivated with the idea of romance in ancient Egypt. Of course, it's fiction romance, but hey, I decided to read it and find out for myself if I'll like it. I don't like it; I LOVE IT!!!!!! There are many cool and distinct characters, and the main ones are just so special! The story mainly focuses on the efforts of the good people who want to restore Thutmose III to his rightful place as Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, which was claimed from Hatsheput, his half-sister. Mara, the independent and witty slave turned spy, is the main heroine in the story. Her ... This is an excellent book! Her second master, who bought her from her abusive previous master, makes her a interpreter for a foreign princess (who is selected by Queen Hatsheput to marry Thutmose) who does not speak Egyptian. But Mara's real role will be to find out the traitors to the queen. After her master's commands, Mara travels to a city via boat to prepare for her job as "interpreter." Along the way, she socialize with a "scribe" named Sheftu, our main hero in the story. She finds our for herself that Sheftu is no scribe, but the son of a wealthy, deceased lord. He's under the pretense of undying loyalty to the queen and is actually plotting with the captain of the boat to overthrow her reign to bring forth Thutmose. Sheftu captures Mara spying on him, so he forces her to work for him and act as a spy for him. Mara is now a double-agent! Independently, she at first only thinks of herself and plans to do almost anything to give herself a better life. She is going to double-cross both her masters who are on opposing sides, once the gig is up. But unexpectedly (but predictably for us lol^^), she falls in love! With Sheftu! She is caught between her love for Sheftu and her safety when her evil master wants any news of a traitor... What will happen? What will Mara do? Well, you have to read the book to find out!^o^ I am very satisfied with this book, and it is one of my favorites. I believe that the author's (Eloise Jarvis McGraw) descriptions of Egyptian life and items are fairly accurate. :) But that's just how I see it! I wouldn't change a thing about it. It's a great fictional book, based on real Egyptian events (about Queen Hatsheput claiming the throne from Thutmose!).

Excellent book for children 11 and up.
My granddaughter asked for this for Christmas. She is home educated and her mom read it to her, just as I read it to her mom and aunts and uncles when I home educated them. After finishing it, she said it was her favorite book ever! She is 11. The book is a classic.

Ancient Egypt
Even though this considered YA literature, I still read this book. It’s a novel of espionage & intrigue. I read it on a summer reading list in school & have been in love with it ever since.
