About this product

Product Information

Dimitry Shumsky's study addresses the question of how the cultural-political background of the Jewish milieu in Prague, squarely aligned between its German and Czech roots, became the vital spark for Zionism during the Habsburg Monarchy. Such personalities as the philosopher Hugo Bergmann, the historian Hans Kohn and the publicist Robert Weltsch actively participated in the public debates at the time. They turned their experiences in a supernational monarchic world full of conflict into the basis for realising the project of a federal Jewish-Arab commonwealth in Palestine.

Reviews
" A screwball delight so full of bright, deft, beautifully honed humor. . . . You'd follow [Hiaasen] anywhere. " -- The New York Times "A whopping cannonball splash of fun. . . . Hooray for Hiaasen's world. " -- Los Angeles Times "Barking mad. . . . Here Hiaasen is at his best. " -- The Baltimore Sun "It doesn't do Carl Hiaasen justice to call him Florida's funniest state product. . . . Hiaasen is something bigger: a superb national satirist [and] a great American writer. " -- Entertainment Weekly "Hilarious. . . . Like the characters, the plot is a hoot, but the real laughs are in Hiaasen's telling." --People  (Critics' Choice) "Confident and determinedly wacky. . . . Skinny Dip thrives when Hiaasen and his heroes let their prankster spirits run amok. . . . Riotous fun."  --A.V. Club "Bitingly satirical, sublimely zany, and deeply satisfying." --Kirkus Reviews "Hiaasen's signature mix of hilariously over-the-top villains, lovable innocents, and righteous indignation at what mankind has done to his beloved Florida wilderness is all present in riotous abundance. . . . Hiaasen's books are so enjoyable it's always a sad moment when they end." --Publishers Weekly "Another delirious romp through the swamps of South Florida from the irrepressible Carl Hiaasen. . . . A corker, chock-full of belly laughs and blistering truths." --Booklist  (starred review)

  • Sea you again ?

Joey Perrone is thrown off a cruise ship so her scheming two timing husband Chaz can gain.... what, well you wont know until near the end and the twist is that Joey survives, but instead of going to the police she decides to have a little fun, play with Chaz's mind and ultimately get even. I read this on holiday 2007 and could not put it down, a fantastic plot that twists and turn all the way to the end and great characters you can sympathise with and dislike in equal amounts. Great stuff !

  • You can't buy them any cheaper than ebay.

Hiaasen, what a great way to pass the time driving down the interstate. I have read most of his books and liked them all. Audio books, not just for old people.

  • Consistent Carl Hiaasen

This book is true to Hiaasen's form. It is entertaining, full of plot twists, and extremely funny. A really entertaining read (or listen if you do audio books as I do).
