I would say either this wasn't the book in the pictures or I took a hard corner smash inside the unharmed Gemini mailer. But the book wasn't taped to it. So I would say I'm out 25$. Didn't contact seller

  • A Must For Monster Fans!

VARAN is one of the more obscure Toho creatures, having only appeared in this film and in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in the classic "Destroy All Monsters". Watching this movie, you'll wonder why they didn't use him more. He would have made a great ally or foe for Godzilla. For monster fans who actually like to see their monsters before, oh I don't know, the last 10 minutes of the movie, this film is really a treat. Varan appears within 20 minutes and after that, he's in about every other scene in the movie. There are no real human subplots to speak of. Once Varan appears, all the humans do is try to devise ways of destroying him. And, luckily of course, they don't have much success for a while. VARAN is also notable for being the final B & W Toho monster film. However, some ...

  • Diekaiju Varan

For a movie this old the transfer on the dvd disc is quite impressive with stock footage as my only complaint about the film. Overall the cover art for the dvd is to my liking - the subtitles are understandable - and the storyline captivating for the times = Remember back in the 60's giant monsters on the loose films were engaging many since the advent of King Kong, The Beast from 2000 Fathoms and Godzilla with many fans requesting more. Varan doesn't disappoint and your sure to find this giant monster film just as entertaining with monster action and character build up going hand in hand with the storyline. On this disc is the Japanese version of the film plus an interesting extra on how they went about making Varans skin for this film. While the dvd is out of print and selling for ...

  • It's unbelievably good!

This movie is kind of a forgotten one, but really good. The Japanese version is better, but the English one is also on this disc. If you've ever seen Destroy All Monsters, and wondered, "Who is Varan?" this movie is his origin. In Destroy All Monsters, Varan is famous, perhaps infamous, for having the least screen-time of any Godzilla monster in any movie and is only clearly seen at the end. He is also playable in the Wii version of Godzilla Unleashed, unexpectedly, This movie, however, is all about our flying squirrel-like lizard. Varan the Unbelievable features music that would appear in later Godzilla films composed by none other than Akira Ifukube. This black & white classic is a must-see and the DVD is better, it contains a featurette about making Varan's skin. 5/5 stars!
