About this product

Product Information

Activision, the company that gave you such popular shooters as Spider Fighter and River Raid, presents Laser Blast for the Atari 2600.

You control a spaceship that resembles a flying saucer. It is equipped with a laser blaster, which is used to fire downward at enemy bases (which are about the same size as your saucer) that crawl back and forth along the ground in groups of three. You can aim the blaster straight down or diagonally to the left and right.

There are never more than three enemies on screen at once, and they each look alike. Naturally, they will shoot lasers at you while you fly around. Be careful not to stay in one place too long, because the enemies are equipped with radar detection systems and will aim their lasers directly at your ship. When you destroy all three ground attack forces (enemy bases), the game scrolls to the right, effectively positioning your ship above the next three bases.

The spaceship you pilot can move up and down and to the left and right. As you progress through the game, however, the enemy projects a force field that will eventually restrict your movement to the very top of the screen. When up this high, it is very difficult to avoid radar detection. When you are low to the ground, you can keep your ship under the radar.

When you get shot in this game, you can take out an enemy by crash-landing your descending ship on one of the bases. For every 1,000 points you gain, you get an extra ship (up to six at one time). The goals of this game are to shoot enemy bases, avoid being shot, and score as many points as you possibly can.

  • Laser Blast for the Atari 2600

The Atari 2600 definitely brings back the memories. This game is definitely a classic. Crafted by the Atari 2600 masters of programming Activision, this game is sort of like a reverse Space Invaders. You play as an attacking flying saucer. You goal is to attack earth, you do this by charging up your ion cannon, aiming, and fire at the earthlings Laser cannons before they shoot you down. In the event you get shot down, you can guide your disabled craft into the cannon that shot you down. A very fun game, and definitely addictive. A must have for the collector and the casual gamer alike.

  • You GOT TO AT LEAST have THIS ONE GAME if you need an Activision game!!!

The "SECOND BEST COMPANY" that made Atari games! "ACTIVISION!" With that being said, Laser Blast speaks volumes for itself with the name along. "IF YOU LIKE LASERS, YOU'LL HAVE A BLAST!" I stayed home one day with the flu and spent nearly 5 hours blasting away and I can't even remember how high the score got, but it was WAY UP THERE!!!! LOL

  • Awesome Game

Laser Blast is an awesome game from back when Home Video Games were just starting out. Although this pales in comparison to today's games graphically it brings back great memories from a time gone by. You will thoroughly enjoy this game if you are into Atari VCS games. The idea is to blow up ground forces with your spaceships laser without getting shot down. If you do get shot though, you still have one last ditch chance to take out an instillation by driving your wounded spaceship into it. If you are wondering about this game, take it from me, you'll not be sorry you bought it.

  • Classic Fun

First video game memory I have was playing this game. Almost 40(yeesh) years of gaming later, it still holds up. Think of it as a reverse Space Invaders/ missile Command. Good times
