The story of the conversion of the Waodani Indians, a violent tribe living in isolation in Ecuador, is both tragic and inspiring. Over 50 years ago, in 1965, a group of five missionary families traveled to the jungles of Ecuador, intent upon the conversion of its people. All five of the men on the expedition were brutally slaughtered by the Indians, but in the aftermath, the wife and sister of one of the slain men came to live with the Waodani, eventually educating them in the ways of Christianity. Later, one of the men's sons came to join his mother there as well, in a startling, affecting gesture of love.

Awesome story of tremendous faith
We have known and loved this true story of these heroes of faith for over 40 years since coming to know the Lord Jesus Christ. It is one of our very favorites and we have shared it with our family down to our grandchildren and many of our friends who had not had the privilege of knowing about them. It encourages those of faith to know that these 5 men and their families who were in their late 20's and 30's, to be willing to live for Christ but also knowing that they were willing to die if it would bring these savages to faith. One specific statement of the men that stays with me is that these men refused to carry guns while trying to reach these people. Perhaps the most well known member of the group is Jim Elliott, but this award-winning documentary inspired the dramatized motion picture, "End of the Spear" - a story told from the point of view of Steve Saint, son of the missionary pilot who first made contact with the tribe and then later lost his life along with the other men who would accompany him in making personal contact with the Waudani. For those with a sense of adventure, and perhaps an affinity for all things Amazon, this story opens the eyes of the viewer to what the proposition of mission work truly required in terms ... Elizabeth Elliot's life has been a long time inspiration for many Christians, and even if God and time had not revealed the true reason for her husband's death, and the deaths of his fellow missionaries, her love and forgiveness of their murderers would have been remarkable for its supernatural nature. But it is wonderful to see the whole truth on film, and to get not just a "story" but a deep look into the ancient untouched cultures existing in the Amazon, still isolated from modern civilization. Instead of an ideologically-driven fantasy, like Margaret Mead's student work on Samoa, we have a matter-of-fact story told in all its ugly truthfulness by the people who lived it. But the real attractiveness of the story is that people can change and hearts can expand to love the most ... Christians will find heaps of 1 Corinthians 13 in action, demonstrated not in flowery inspirational words but in the blood, sweat, and tears of our Lord and Savior. And what review would be complete without the words, "Makes a great gift?" :)

Excellent DVD & Testimony of Gods Grace & Forgiveness!
Absolutley wonderful. What a miracle and testimony of Gods grace and forgiveness! Wonderful doccumentary and you get to see not only the missionary wives but also the Indians involved in this story. I bought this along with The End Of The Spear and have watched both of them several times. Both go together wonderfully. While this DVD is a doccumerntary, The End Of The Spear, is a drama of the story involved. I have read the book, The Gates Of Slendor, by Elizabeth Elliott, many times and it was awesome to see the people and hear the story from them, in this DVD. Excellent for us "American Christians" to see what others have gone though for the sake of Christ and spreading the Gosple.Absolutley wonderful.
