About this product

Product Information

The dramatic events of the final half-century of conflict between Indians and whites in the American West are presented here as a history of two peoples seemingly destined never to understand each other. Utley interprets this conflict from a dual perspective: re-creating events from the Indian viewpoint while also providing an objective appraisal of why the nineteenth-century white man acted as he did. This even-handed approach to a tragic period of American history results in a memorable study of impressive scope and penetrating insight.

The book is in amazing condition, above “acceptable” and shipped in a bubblewrap envelope. Though there are some soft color fading the top and bottom edge, it hardly seemed used and has that library book smell. Glad I took a chance because the description was general and there was no photo. Seller also didn’t provide additional description when asked. But they did promptly cancel my cancellation when asked and sent quickly. Thank you for the Tuesday surprise!

Seller listed this as hardback but sent a paperback version. I received it in a torn plastic mailer that exposed the book so I’m unsure about its initial quality vs any damage that may have occurred during delivery. I attempted contact x2 to replace it with the correct version with no reply. Waste of good money. Don’t trust this seller to ship what you actually buy or package it with care. Bait and switch.

  • Good Utley Book!!!

Robert Utley is one of my favorite historians...This is a good book about the Indian "problem" from 1846-1890...Utley has a great writing style and it's all easy to follow...Not a bunch of academic gibberish..It has a lot of cool drawings, maps, pictures too!!!!
