About this product

Product Information

Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards for best novel Four travelers come to the ringworld. . . Louis Wu: human and old; bored with having lived too fully for far too many years. Seeking a challenge, and all too capable of handling it. Nessus: a trembling coward, a puppeteer with a built-in survival pattern of nonviolence. Except that this particular puppeteer is insane. Teela Brown: human; a wide-eyed youngster with no allegiances, no experience, no abilities. And all the luck in the world. Speaker-To-Animals: kzin; large, orange-furred, and carnivorous. And one of the most savage life-forms known in the galaxy. Why did these disparate individuals come together? How could they possibly function together? And where, in the name of anything sane, were they headed?

Not as good as my memory of it

I loved RINGWORLD the first time I read it, shortly after it was released decades ago. In the interim, either my tastes have changed, or I have gotten more sophisticated -- probably both. Anyway, Niven does a pretty good job on this but all puzzles are not solved and many questions are not answered. Still, it's a decent adventure-type romp, and students of the field really ought to read it at least once.

  • Ringworld - Larry Niven

I was originally introduced to this book during high school in the mid-seventies. Needless to say, I was apprehensive as to how I would view the book now that I'm "older", or was my memory clouded by time? Nope! It's still just as entertaining now as it was then. I think it's high time to pick up others in the Larry Niven collection. Larry Niven has a way of giving enough detail to get the imagination going without being overly detail-oriented, which can cause a story to become tedious. After all, books were made to get the brain juices flowing, and Mr. Niven does very well in this. I can hardly wait to get another of his! Nathan

  • Ringworld - Enter the mind of Larry Niven

Enter the mind of Larry Niven, award winning author and the man who dreamed up 'Known Space'. The Ringworld is exactly what the title says it is. It is a world, in the shape of a ring with a star in the center. The Ringworld is hurling through known space on its way to who knows where. It was first discovered by the Puppeteers. Puppeteers are cowards, so they do not explore on their own, they hire others to explore for them and being cowards, they make sure they are in complete control at all times. One such Puppeteer, names Nessis, hires two humans, and one Kzin to go with him to investigate the Ringworld. What follows is an exciting tale of discovery, wonder and imagination that will leave the reader wanting more. This is a classic Sci-Fi novel that should be read by every Niven ...

  • Classic that is still relevant today

This is a groundbreaking SF novel. It should be part of every SiFi fan’s repertoire.
