  • Coudn't put the book down.

The entire series of Ian Rutledges myseries are great reading. They are historical novels set in the period just after the Great War and are fascinating reading. They mysteries are compelling and the story within the mystery of Ian Rutledge's struggle to come back to England after 4 years in the Trenches leading his men and the terrors of all he has seen can relate easily to the men who have served in our wars. Highly Recommended.

  • A fascinating mystery

I have loved Charles Todd's mysteries since they (mother & son I believe) first started writing them. The authors create a vivid picture of what England must have been like at the end of World War 1. The main character is a complicated man suffering from the effects of the war. They not only deal with the physical problems that their character, Inspctor Rutledge has but also his mental and emotional state as he deals with life as an ex-soldier. He is back at his old job working at Scotland Yard where he has to deal with a nasty boss and another murder somewhere in England. The details add a lot to the atmosphere. The Todd books are fascinating and very enjoyable.
