About this product

Product Information

The first Virgil Flowers novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford. "Virgil Flowers, introduced in bestseller Sandford's Prey series, gets a chance to shine...The thrice-divorced, affable member of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), who reports to Prey series hero Lucas Davenport, operates pretty much on his own.."* He's been doing the hard stuff for three years, but he's never seen anything like this. In the small rural town of Bluestem, an old man is bound in his basement, doused with gasoline and set on fire. Three weeks before, a doctor and his wife were murdered. Three homicides in Bluestem in just as many weeks is unheard of. It's also no coincidence. And it's far from over...

Reviews
"Sandford keeps the reader guessing and the pages turning while Flowers displays the kind of cool and folksy charm that might force Davenport to share the spotlight more often."--* Publishers Weekly "Flowers is a welcome addition to [Sandford's] body of work."-- Chicago Sun-Times "[Sandford] maintains the page-turning momentum that makes his novels such a treat. If you liked Lucas, you'll love Virgil."-- The Tampa Tribune "A book that will keep you turning pages, guessing, and completely immersed--and engrossed--in whatever Sandford wants to throw at you. It's a great ride, and Sandford proves that sometimes it's not the character, it's not the series, it's the writer."-- The Post and Courier "An adrenaline rush peppered with laugh-out-loud moments."-- Booklist

  • Worth the Read

Not one of Sandford's best, but still worth the read. I felt I had to sift through a good bit of chaff to enjoy proper kernels. There is some trouble in keeping up with the characters' names, but Virgil Flowers is enjoyably true to form.

  • John Sandford's Dark of the Moon. Virgil Flowers again keeps you on edge.

Can't go wrong if its John Sandford, and this novel, Dark of the Moon, does not disappoint. Virgil Flowers, a member of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is again at his best when he investigates three homicides in a small town. Three homicides in three weeks is unheard of. It's also no coincidence. And it's far from over....Virgil operates pretty much on his own as he tackles this murder wave in the little town of Bluestem. This is a fast paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat right through to the end. Read it. I think you'll like it. I did and enjoyed every page.

  • Not a great read!

I had read books number two and three before buying the first Virgil Flowers installment. I found that the plotline dragged, and that the character development was shallow. Three quarters of the way through, I found that I didn't care about "who-dunnit". I am looking forward to book four, as these issues will hopefully be resolved. I loved the Lucas Davenport character, and read every one of those books. Hopefully, Virgil Flowers will become a more interesting character.

  • Virgil Flowers is on the case.

John Sandfords main character, Lucas Davenport takes a back seat to Virgil Flowers who returns home to assist on one case but soon finds he is in the middle of a serial crime spree. The writing takes you through the beauty that is Minnesota in June. The cast of characters keeps the reader guessing as to who is behind these crimes.
