About this product

Product Information

WINDTALKERS begins quietly--with widescreen aerial shots of clouds that gradually clear to reveal the beautiful mesas of Monument Valley. A bus collects Navajo volunteers Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) and Charlie Whitehorse (Roger Willie). It's 1943, and the U.S. has developed an indecipherable secret military code based on the Navajo language. Yahzee and Whitehorse are to be trained as code talkers. Then John Woo's Pacific war film erupts into violence, with a savage battle that has one survivor, Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage). Badly wounded and feeling guilty at the loss of his companions, Joe recuperates in Hawaii where he is helped by a sympathetic nurse (Frances O'Connor). Joe disguises his hearing loss and he is promoted as Yahzee's battlefield bodyguard. Ordered to "protect the code at all times," Joe must prevent Yahzee from being captured. At first, Yahzee and Whitehorse, whose bodyguard is Ox Henderson (Christian Slater), are subjected to prejudice--particularly from Rogers (Noah Emmerich). But when the unit is shipped to Saipan, the Marines begin to appreciate the code talkers.Director Woo has created a powerful drama. The visceral battle sequences are strikingly filmed and there is fine acting from Cage, Beach, Willie, Slater, Emmerich, and Frances O'Connor, who portrays the poignancy of love in uncertain times.

Windtalkers honors a very specific group from WW II. This film was certainly overdue when released.

Violent battle scenes indicate a warning for PTSD sufferers, but the portral by Nicholas Cage of a Marine taking on a cause that keeps him on the most protective mission of his life had a very redeeming quality. Native nation code talkers were treated with accuracy and empathy.

  • The truth about the code talkers and how they helped with winning this terrible war.

I like so many hate war but if it were not for the Code Talkers of WW2 we would not have won the war. No one could break the Native American Language unless you were one yourself. Very good and true movie. I know it was true from my father who was in this war and I was still a young kid but I did listen and learn the truth. So glad I found this one on eBay.

  • Very good and entertaining!

The best part of this movie is about the indians who were the code talkers. I enjoyed it but it was predictable and boring at times. I found the code very entertaining. The idea, the carrying out, and the human side. It's well worth watching. Hard to imagine the code was real and never .... well, watch the movie!

  • Windtalkers

My own Great Uncle Jimmy was in WWII, and he was a Marine, he didn't talk much until the later half of the 60s, about what he did. Except, when he did mention it, it was top-secret. He was to keep an eye on his navajo code talker. My mother said it would make a great movie.Jimmy said: that will be the day. They will never get the full recognition they deserve. John Woo and NIcholas Cage, did a fairly good job, in breaking the audience into a small story line, explaining the job of the windtalker.A language the japanese did not know about. They knew english, but they did not know the navajo language.A language, so old that only Navajo's know. The Navajo Indians did a great service to our Country in helping the war by using their own language on radio waves that the japanese were willing to ...

  • WWII history comes alive on screen

The characters are real and entertaining. You feel their fear, joy, pain, distress, and anger. The story is a piece of history and how a tribal language confused the enemy and helped save thousands of lives. So pop the corn and get comfortable. You won't want to miss a second!
