Director John Wells' adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize winning play August: Osage County tells the tale of the dysfunctional Westin clan, who all come together after the death of patriarch Beverly Weston (Sam Shepard). His wife Violet (Meryl Streep), who is fighting mouth cancer and a growing dependency on pain pills, sees her entire clan return home for the services, including her sister Mattie Fae Aiken (Margo Martindale) and her husband Charles (Chris Cooper) and their son "Little" Charles (Benedict Cumberbatch). Also arriving are Violet's three daughters: Barbara (Julia Roberts) and her husband Bill (Ewan McGregor), Ivy (Julianne Nicholson), and wild child Karen (Juliette Lewis), who brings her fiancé Steve (Dermot Mulroney). As the clan bickers and jokes, old truths come to the surface, jealousies flourish, and eventually each of the characters confronts some past hurt or future fear. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

    August: Osage County

    This movie should have been rated XX---entirely too much cussing & using our Lord's name in vain. The storyline is about family discord. Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts & Margo Martindale played their character roles really well, but I could not enjoy the movie for the bad language. Do not waste your money if you are offended by vulgar language!

    Don't ruin the actors legacy by watching this

    This has to be the most depressive the worst movie I've just about ever seen. To have such an amazing cast and to watch such depressive dialogue and relationships is unthinkable. I literally had to take a volume to get through it. Though it's well acted and has a good cast it's so slow moving and depressing and they keep complaining about the heat until I had to get up and put on my air conditioner and it's 30° outside. Pass this by please.

    You need to get right

    Great performances. I like everyone in it. Julia Roberts and Chris Cooper's characters were the only ones with any redeeming qualities.At times it felt like I was spending time with my family. I've sometimes felt that Family was another way to say FU. It seems this family had that part right.

    Very Dark but a realistic look at family strife

    There is so much family tension in this movie, that you can cut it with a knife. Some people use watching an episode of hoarders, to motivate them to clean their house. This might have a similar effect on analyzing your personal relationships. Exposes the reality that all families go through inter-personal strife and health issues, yet figure out a way to survive. There is strong acting here, that really hits you in the stomach. Everyone has a part to play, and this is one of those rare oddball movies that brings it all together.
