That's exactly what Frances (Diane Lane) does in UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, directed by Audrey Wells (GUINEVERE). Traveling in Tuscany after a heart-wrenching divorce, Frances surprises herself by making an offer on a rundown villa--the biggest impulse purchase of her life. With the help of a warmhearted, smitten real estate agent and a local contractor with a team of Polish workers, her 300-year-old house is slowly transformed into a home. Along the way, she encounters a larger-than-life British ex-patriot, kind and generous neighbors, and a charming Italian man or two. Essentially, the film is an affirmation that good things can happen if one lets them--and that sometimes what seems like a terrible mistake or a crazy idea is a really a blessing. Lane is completely engaging as Frances, second-guessing her speedy purchase, looking for love, and rediscovering herself. Based on the book by Frances Mayes, the film was shot on location in Rome, Florence, Positano, and Cortona in Italy. The breathtaking scenery is sure to have viewers saving their pennies for next year's vacation--or their Tuscan dream house.

    An American in Italy

    Love all things Italian. Have seen this movie several times. Writer/Book reviewer's husband divorced her, she takes friends up on an offer to visit Italy in their place (straight woman on a gay tour bus). Buys a small villa, gets to know the locals, has a fling, her pregnant friend visits, she hosts a wedding at her new villa..and that's all the info you're getting. Crazy about all the main AND supporting characters. Movies hold my interest so much more when there are several story lines as in this one. I hope to tour Italy in about 3 years, and the Tuscany/Amalfi areas were at the top of my list even BEFORE I saw "Under the Tuscan Sun". You will enjoy the movie. Great cast with several VERY handsome men!

    Good job

    I love this movie. I love the story line. you feel so much heart and empathy for the lead character. It has a brilliant cast and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. All the characters have good roles and really amp up the drama. Italy is the perfect setting for a life waiting to unfold. I find it a bit unrealistic though. Nobody is going to give up the only life they ever knew and move to tuscany to get in debt... but if they did, I am sure that is how they wish it would have turned out for them also.

    WHEN CAN I MOVE TO TUSCANY??!!!

    After having sat through dozens of painfully dull and insipid 'chick-flicks', I was hesitant to watch this one. However, after my stylist loaned me her copy, I was ten minutes into the movie when I hopped on ebay (while the movie played) and bought my own copy. I'm 32 years old and still a dreamer and this movie suits my love of foreign travel as well as finding a way to adapt to changes that may come willingly or not-so willingly into our lives! There is not one thing I would change about this movie except maybe to add even scenes of the bountiful land that is Italy. This movie is not a gratuitous snapshot of love-gone-wrong, but it truly shows the capabilities of the collective human spirit. The movie's not sappy and it has so many bouts of humor, I laughed, then cried! This movie ...

    Lovely film

    This is my Mom's favorite movie, I bought it for her birthday. I love the personal growth of the character as well as her life journey. I'm sure lots of us wish we could just start over in any the place of our dreams if money were no object!
