A deliberately paced, meditative adaptation of the eponymous novel by Ann Druyan and "pop" astronomer Carl Sagan, who died during production. SPHERE: When psychologist Norman Goodman (Dustin Hoffman) wrote a report for the government on how to deal with extraterrestrial life forces, he didn't expect his recommendations to be used. Now that a secret government agency is investigating what may be an alien spaceship that has been discovered partially buried on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, Norman finds that the plan he outlined is being put into effect and that the team he named in his report has been assembled. In addition to Norman, there is Harry Adams (Samuel L. Jackson), a mathematician; Ted Fielding (Liev Schreiber), a physicist; and Beth Halperin (Sharon Stone), a biochemist and Norman's old flame. Led by the secretive Barnes (Peter Coyote), the foursome undergoes a crash course in diving and living under the sea in a naval habitat and begins investigating the mysterious vessel, discovering a huge glowing sphere made of an unidentifiable substance with a shimmering, almost liquid surface. As the investigation continues, a series of strange, horrific events leads the team of scientists to doubt each other's sanity and motives. The film is based on the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton.

2 good sifis movies for 1 price.
Contact was a great movie with real good special effects.Sphere was also good but dragged at times.Could have had a better alien & story line but still was a ok sifi movie.

This movie really makes one think about life and whether or not to believe in God. Many are skeptics, but many still have faith. Things happen for a reason. Trying to get others to believe without seeing is the difficult part. Even scientists can believe if they allow themselves to think that everything is not always black and white. I liked this movie because a definite non-believer who couldn't understand how others could believe has trouble convincing others when she finds the truth. This would be a great movie for a science class or a teenage/adult bible education class.This movie really makes one think about life and whether or not to believe in God. Contact/Sphere Movie Review
This double feature DVD is an excellent value. Contact was an excellent movie with a fine plot, great actors and excellent special effects. The movie had a personal story in addition to the science fiction aspects. I would recommend this movie. Sphere was also excellent with a superb cast and a great story line. Also a recommeded film.

2(Two) movies for the price of one. Both rather connvoluted, with unsatisfactory endings. Jodie Fosters' in "Contact" her acting always kinda makes me feel like she is asking "why am I here?" Always lost & forlorn trying to find her way both on & off screen, maybe that is the hook for me always trying to help the misplaced kitten. Its good to see Sharon Stone without the sex scenes.
