With only the sun, planets, and stars to guide her, she brought Flying Cloud safely around Cape Horn at the height of a winter blizzard, faced storms, dodged shoals, and found her way through calms to make the swift passage possible.     Influence of a Brilliant Woman

    The book was purchased as a nostalgic reminder of days as a Mariner Girl Socut, but the story itself is fascinating. I never realized the influence the captain's wife had as the navigator of the ship. This is an excellent story not only of clipper ships but truly of the influence of a brilliant woman.
