Sabian was founded in 1981 and has prided itself on its superior quality and craftsmanship. It is one of the world's most popular companies for cymbals and other percussion gear and accessories.The Sabian Paragon line has a unique sound. It is played by famous drummers Neil Peart, Scott Reeder, Brian Young, Nate Arling and Brent Fitz. Creating a Sabian Paragon crash involves a great deal of attention to detail. The Sabian metallurgists combine specific amounts of copper, tin, and silver to create the Sabian B20 bronze alloy. They then carefully pour the molten-hot B20 bronze into pots. Once this mixture cools, it is considered an already musical B20 bronze casting. These castings are then hand separated by weight and are processed to remove any and all impurities.To get the perfection that musicians expect from Sabian cymbals, these castings are then fed through a large rolling oven more than a dozen times. It takes a crew of five people working in composed precision and enduring intense heat to complete this stage of the process. During this process, blanks are rotated carefully to create a molecular weave, This can provide the strength and the durability for the crash cymbals. Hand hammering is used selectively on the bells. This can add complexity and musicality to these precision crafted custom cymbals.Specially retrofitted lathes are used to create these instruments. They thin out the cymbals to the desired gauge while adding the crucial tonal grooves and accessories. The cymbals must then be trimmed to the exact size specifications before the edges are buffed for smoothness. Next a Vault sound specialist will hand tests each cymbal individually. This is a crucial step in the process. Once each cymbal is hand tested, it will sit on a shelf to age. This process allows the molecules to calm down and to stabilize before playing. The final stage of this process is to have two vault specialists hand test each of the cymbals individually to make sure they fit the parameters of the specific series and model. It is this attention to detail and craftsmanship that can make Sabian Paragon crash cymbals and their music so unique.
