The mindbending French Canadian acrobatic theater troupe stars in this highly imaginative, allegorical tale about a young man who falls from the sky into a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastic creatures at the base of a volcano. The production is a dramatic interpretation told through the use of spectacular acrobatics, performed by over 50 artists from 13 countries performing feats on the aerial straps, Russian swings, triple trapeze, hand-balancing on canes, juggling, and many other phenomenal stunts. Excellent Performance!
I love this kind of stuff, the way they all performed and the way they would hang from thin ropes, left me at the edge of my seat hoping they wouldn't get hurt but of course since it's a dvd it would have been edited if something did happened Lol! Anyways if you are into anything related to Cirque Du Soleil, Varekai is a title you gotta add to your collection.

Varekai, a collectors must have
If You love Cirque du Soleil, then this DVD will excite your senses. Firstly the quality of the images as well as the different camera angles give you several advantage points to see the total show. Secondly, I found the various acts spectacular and several times I found myself holding my breath. The clown magician had myself and my teenage son on the floor laughing. Do you know how hard it is to get a teenager on the floor in hysterical laughter? Lastly, the set designs, costumes and makeup artists out did themselves, they were brilliant, and clever and perfected suited to the acts. If you seen several Cirque's shows before you will notice some acts are repeats, however I view it like this.. no matter where you purchased a nice juicy steak, it's still a steak until you make it your own. ... Excellent. One of the best.
The first time I watched the Varekai DVD, I was skeptical. I had seen other Cirque shows, but this one was just... odd. But by the second or third time, I was absolutely in love with it. It is unique, artistic, and beautifully done. The acts are impressive, the costums are gorgeous, and the music is, in my opinion, some of the best from any of the Cirque du Soleil shows. This DVD is a well-recorded version of the show, which really does a nice job capturing the moments. I would highly reccommend this to anyone who enjoys Cirque, although it might be slightly off the wall for someone who has never seen Cirque at all before. CIRQUE DU SOLEIL -- VAREKAI (DVD review)
I thought this performance was fairly decent. I LOVE Cirque Du Soleil, but this particular show was a bit boring. I still say one of their greatest shows is LA NOUBA at Walt Disney World. VAREKAI has much more of actual dancing than it does tricks, risky moves, and awesome music. This film/show was pretty show moving. It was nice to see it once, but it's definitely not one I'd watch over and over again. I'd give it 2 out of 4 stars. Watch Disney World's LA NOUBA if you can. I wanted to show my granddaughters a Cirque experience since they are taking aerial gymnastics and circus classes. They loved it and are looking forward to seeing it in person some day.
