  • Terrific book on the Rock Island Railroad in its last decade and a half!

"Rock Island, In Color," Volume II: 1965-1980 is an excellent complementary book to Volume I. It covers the decade and a half, year-by-year, of when the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific was no longer a profitable business leading to it declaring bankruptcy on March 17, 1975. The book has hundreds of color photos of "The Rock" illustrating the various color schemes used for its freight cars and locomotives to the pastel blue colors that represented the railroad in its final years before its shutdown and demise on March 31, 1980. It also covers the last years of the various "Rock Island Rockets" passenger trains such as the "Rocky Mountain Rocket" and "Twin Stars Rocket." If you're a fan of the Rock Island Lines or even historic Midwest railroading, you'll want this book.!

  • Railroad Book

I'm an avid railroad fan that is always looking for a good deal. I collect anything that is railroad, especially HO scale model trains, books, lanterns, maps, pictures and signs. The railroad books are an excellent reference on how the real railroads operated, thus giving me a more prototypical knowledge on how to operate my HO layout. The Rock Island railroad book is filled full of information that is relevant to the granger railroads I model in 1/87 scale.
