    this is a great series, i first saw this on tcm movies and fell in love with this series, glenda farrell is awesome in this, great acting, i simply love the old black and white movies when acting was acting, check this out, you won't go wrong......................

    Torchy might have started a trend.

    This film from the mid '30s and its sequels may have contributed to the story line of the aggressive wise-gal reporter butting in on murder cases and helping to solve the mystery while encountering danger along the way. Marjorie Reynolds on the silver screen, and Lois Lane in the comic strips are in the sisterhood, and even the "Nancy Drew" character sans newspaper bona fides is an affiliate. The original aspect about this Torchy series is her obvious hots for the detective. Glenda Farrell plays Torchy, and she does a respectable job. But Ann Southern and Joan Blondelll could be better at the role. It's a "B" picture. Not as good a series as THE THIN MAN, CHARLIE CHAN, MR MOTO, or THE SAINT series. On a par with the Ralph Bellamy ELLERY QUEEN series in terms of production values.
