    An excellent movie with a great cast and incredible aerial combat!

    The movie is excellent! Made not long after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the movie captures the spirit of the country during World War II. The cast is excellent, including Gig Young, John Garfield, and Harry Carey. The film stresses the importance of team work and resilience. Released in 1943, the film has excellent cinematography.

    Air Force

    Films like this were made during WWII for the folks at home, to understand what was taking place overseas. This story's plot-line comes from one of the B-17's that flew from California and arrived in Hawaii, that fateful day of 7 December 1941. This was one of the movies I saw when I grew-up. It required real acting, "special effects" is an art (no computer generated graphics) and the cinematography shows what a B-17 bomber crew would face, during this era of history. If you're into classic WWII movies, you'll probably like it. I hope my new youngster enjoys and appreciates these stories, when I pass these DVD's onto him.

    Great quality at a surprisingly low price.

    An exceptional item for fans of the B17 flying fortress as actual aircraft were used in the movie - which may be why it was referred to in some corners as 'the Hollywood Bomber'. Not too many extras, but the main feature is well transferred and the overall running time makes it a real bargain. There is nothing really remarkable about the case, so if space is a problem it can be discarded and the disc slipped into a carrier with your other Flying Fortress discs.

    Great wartime classic finally out on dvd!

    The Mary Ann, a B-17 Flying Fortress, takes off from California for Hawaii on a routine training flight on December 6, 1941. En route, they learn of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Subsequently the crew mans the Mary Ann through action at Wake Island, the Philippines, and the Battle of the Coral Sea. Directed by Howard Hawks whereby John Garfield portrays an aerial gunner. Air Force was made in 1943 and filmed in Drew Army Air Field (Tampa, Florida) - site of Tampa International Airport today. The movie won an Oscar and three nominations in 1944. Keeping the context of time of which the film was made in, it is an excellent study of a period where the entire family can watch and see the psyche of the time when our nation once banded together for war that can be seen in the films of the ...

    The beginning of our war

    Flying has always facinated me,I remember seeing this movie back in 1977 on t.v.Being a student of American history and World War two,I had to buy this movie.The acting is over done,but they were appealling to Americans sense of patriotism when this movie came out.The flying sequences were well done for the time,as they did not have cgi.A bomber crew must deal with the aftermath of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The charactors are a wide variety of stereo-typical Americans of that time.The tough guy,the married guy,the life time service man,and the one who can't wait to get out of the military.Flying from island to island to seek aviation fuel and ammunition,the fliers come across combat and fellow Americans.This is a time capsule of what we were like during the second world war.
