About this product

Product Information

This strategy excursion from niche producer NIS America presents the sensibilities of PC-style empire-building in a distinctly character-oriented, console-style package. Players take the role of Lord Zetta, who once ruled over all the netherworld, but has recently lost much of his power and influence. To win back control of the realm, players will manage and develop their kingdoms, constructing the structures and facilities they think will best serve their people and plans. A wide range of buildings are available, including homes, hospitals, and factories; since the happiness and strength of the nation relies on its infrastructure, choosing the most effective and worthwhile buildings and upgrades can be crucial. When the time for warfare comes, players summon all their troop to a separate battleground area where the conflict plays out to its gruesome conclusion.

This is my favorite Nippon Ichi game, but I hadnt played since highschool (15 yrs ago!). Still fun, still silly, great sprites.

  • AWESOME

When I saw this is awesome it means something, I can assure you of that. I normally hate RPG/Anime style games but when my friend had me play this, I couldn't put it down. In fact, I spend weeks just trying to find a copy for myself. The game is pretty simple, create characters by binding souls to rocks, weapons etc. Play the story mode to begin basic leveling and unlocking of characters. You can go back to sections as many times as necessary to gain exp points and level up. Even once you finish the main story, there's a whole host of things to do, like fighting and unlocking all the secret characters, attempting to reach the highest level (which may take many months to do) and find all the secret items. One thing I like about this game is is humor. A lot of the jokes are actually kind ...

  • Great for dungeon crawlers

Makai Kingdom is the first out of Atlus/Nippon Ichi to introduce a new fighting system. Unlike some of the other games in the series this one gives you a huge variety of options to create different characters with classes, weapons and binding their souls to various objects. The variety is endless and it gives you just about everything you need to create a evil horde to do your dark bidding. Ultimately though this game isn't as good story wise as La Pucelle or Disgaea and will probably wind up being more of a cult classic as time goes on. Characters like Zetta are tough to relate to at first and the story starts off on a slow note taking at least 5 hours before picking up into something very worthwhile. Still despite its warts this a great game for anyone who loves dungeon maps and leveling ...

  • A sleeper hit classic! Well worth the money, every time.

This is one the the rare games that I will actually return to years after I beat it. The humor is timeless, the strategy yours to choose and the customization is still one upping games that are just coming out to market today. Whether you want to make a one man army, have a squad of throw away assassins, horde of babarians, mages, gunners or walking mechs this game has a strategy and style to appeal to you. This is a game so good, I gladly took time out of my life just to tell ya how good it was.

  • Fans of NIS SRPGs should feel at home with MK, Hours and hours of fun!

For fans of Nippon Ichi SRPG games Makai Kingdom offers more of the deeply engaging game play that you have come to expect. This game is loaded with typical NIS quirky, often amusing, dialog from the main story line. Fans of Disgaea may be pleasantly surprised by new game play depth in the form of summonable structures and vehicles adding new strategy elements for winning battles. Like most NIS games, Makai Kingdom offers tons of post game content with new game+ as well as challenging optional boss battles that require you to level grind into the thousands. The normal story is simple enough to play though but for those who truly enjoy this game, Makai Kingdom offers hundreds of extra hours to fine tune your army into an unstoppable killing machine!
