About this product

Product Information

Gary Cooper is Hollywood's perfect hero, the very embodiment of integrity and grace in this greatest of Westerns. As a newly married town marshal, he must balance an innate sense of justice and duty with loyalty to his beautiful new--and pacifist--bride when he is left by an ungrateful town to face a gang of deadly outlaws alone. As we watch spellbound, film time is real time as the showdown grows ever closer. HIGH NOON is a masterpiece that is frequently interpreted as a parable about artists left to "stand alone" and face persecution during the HUAC Hollywood blacklisting. However, Howard Hawks allegedly devised RIO BRAVO as an answer to the film's "wimpiness," and John Wayne once declared HIGH NOON as un-American--he was apparently offended by the ending of the film, which shows Sheriff Kane removing his badge and tossing it in the dirt.

    Great

Any review that I could make about this movie would fall flat. I have not the words to describe a "classic" like this one. I saw this movie in my home town theater when it first came out. I was a kid, pre teen. It has been with me all these years. Unforgettable. Great acting, suspenseful story and nice message about good and evil. I still can't understand how it got tangled up with the blacklisting politics of those days. I couldn't see any of that as a kid. But then, it was a crazy, mixed-up times., If you haven't seen this movie or haven't seen it for a long tome, you should. The mood set by the black and white filming is wonderful. This particular DVD goes next to my old VHS copy. Some of my best treasures.

  • Really like

Even though it is an older classic, I love this movie. I was surprised to find out the leading lady was Grace Kelly. The quality of the video is good. Black and White.

  • High Noon (DVD, 2002)

Will Kane (Gary Cooper), the longtime marshal of Hadleyville, New Mexico Territory, has just married pacifist Quaker Amy Fowler (Grace Kelly) and turned in his badge. He intends to become a storekeeper elsewhere. Suddenly, the town learns that Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald)—a criminal Kane brought to justice—is due to arrive on the noon train. Miller had been sentenced to hang but was pardoned on an unspecified legal technicality. In court, he had vowed to get revenge on Kane and anyone else who got in the way. Miller's three gang members - his younger brother Ben (Sheb Wooley), Jack Colby (Lee Van Cleef) and Pierce (Robert J. Wilke) - wait for him at the station. Kane and his wife leave town, but fearing that the gang will hunt him down and be a danger to the townspeople, Kane turns back. ...
