A solid laptop that will cover most of your bases.
These are a good value as used machines. As new, I think they are a bit pricey, even though quality is much higher than low line laptops of the PC variety, you have to ask how much could they improve the PC laptop if they sold it for $1,000 more? With electronics, just a few cents can make a difference on the sourced parts. So you are really paying for "Apple". But when they come down in price and are good used units, you can't go wrong. This particular model, like many others, can be upgraded. My experience with Apple goes for many years, and for what you pay for new, it is a disappointment how little RAM they put in the units. These days, you really need at least 8GB for an average user. With each OS upgrade, more RAM for the system is typically demanded. Your other option is ... These are a good value as used machines. Some sellers upgrade the machines to El Capitan, thinking they become more attractive for sale, but the opposite is true. Since the upgrade is free, I'd certainly want to reserve that choice for myself. If El Capitan was installed, then you really need to bump the standard 4GB to 8GB, or you may experience a slowdown in performance. That's the reason I took a star off the review, because Apple should have built these units with 8GB RAM as the standard amount.

MacBook Pro Mid 2010 15"
I'm writing this review for the Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" which I bought used, but still in great condition. Overall this MacBook Pro is fantastic, coming from a 13" Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook (non-Pro), and having used a Mid 2009 Pro until somebody else spilled water on it. The screen is wildly vivid in comparison to the 2008 MacBook, and seems marginally nicer than the 2009. The trackpad clicks much more solidly than the 2008, and there are backlit keys which was very welcome after having to go back to the 2008 MacBook. I decided to spring for a 2010 because I like Apple's older hardware better but still need to be able to use modern macOS, and also because it better fit my price range. My unit has 8 GB of RAM installed, although 4GB is the standard. I've also upgraded to a 500GB HDD ... Quick, elegant, functional, and easy. This Mac replaced an older Macbook Pro, and the first thing I noticed was the speed difference. It's real. This laptop is fast and smooth in everything it does. Responsive to the touch as well, and it takes some getting used to the new gestures, but once I got used to the touchpad, it's much easier to navigate around. But as good as the machine is, what sets Apple products apart is the ease of use and functionality of their software. I upgraded the laptop to Mountain Lion, as well as my desktop at work. Effortless and painless, with nothing lost (as far as I can tell). I did notice some old programs in the Applications folder that will no longer run, but I never used them anyway. No longer a PC...Mac all the way
I had just bought a new HP DV4 last year as a Valentine's Day gift for myself :) I loved how sleek it was and Windows 7 was a great OS. About ten months later, I started getting Blue Screens and Kernel Panics. The long and short after sending it to HP, reseating the memory myself, I still had the same issue. About 80% of my work is online or necessitates the use of a computer, so while my computer was on the fritz, my business was running sluggishly slow, as i only had my iPad to work from. With my previous HP not working to include the "new" one, I was finally fed up enough to buy a Mac. I found this one on ebay and it is in pristine condition. The first thing I noticed when the screen came on was the quality and vibrance of the screen. It was like working with a ... I was thoroughly impressed with how fast it was as well as its ability of handling multiple tasks. The interface is intuitive, aesthetically pleasing and very easy to use. Everything I've created with the Mac is beautiful and top notch-- like a 5th avenue design from NYC. I was afraid I would run head on into the learning curve everyone talked about, but I haven't had any problems. I think this is in part due to me reading heavily about my new baby before it arrived...Learning about Hiding and Quitting applications, the top bar working for all programs etc. I thought I would have to install Parallels or Virtual Box to run certain Windows programs (namely, Windows Live Writer and iDo for Wedding Professionals). At which point I said screw them both. I wasn't putting Windows on my new-to-me Mac. I was lucky enough to find that Mac has a "Snap" app that is just like Windows 7, only it is called Cinch. This made my user experience complete. I still have my trusty favorites like Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop, as well as new programs like Microsoft 11 and Pages 09. I must say, Pages may have one-upped Office in my book. I haven't had any issues with it; it handles everything I throw at it seamlessly. I do believe Ive found my one computer that will be reliable for the next five years.

Get Previous Year's Apple MacBook Pro - An Excellent Value!
Excellent MacBook Pro (Mid-2010) and excellent value! It's not a 2011 Quad Core, but is still a Core i5 and doesn't get as hot as new (2011) MacBook Pros. Screen is an LG brand and seems to have slightly better color saturation/brightness than new MacBook Pro screens I've seen. The reason I purchased this model instead of a new 2011: a) price savings b) no immediate or near-term need for quad core, HD camera, Thunderbolt, or SDXC. The 15" Glossy 1440x900 screen is excellent, although coming from a 13" MacBook Pro the additional size does throw off noticeably more reflections than the 13". But it is very easy to read and the extra pixels are very helpful for video and photo editing. Added 8GB of RAM and a 256GB Samsung SSD (using TRIM Support Enabler for ... Excellent MacBook Pro (Mid-2010) and excellent value! It's not a 2011 Quad Core, but is still a Core i5 and doesn't get as hot as new (2011) MacBook Pros. Geekbench 32-bit Benchmark Score: 5128. All in all, a fantastic machine.
