Product Information

Mary Steenburgen plays multiple characters in this chilling horror story by Arthur Penn. A struggling actress takes a role for a producer at his isolated mansion. Upon her arrival, things begin to get strange. She is never fully explained the extent of her role by the aging producer or his assistant. As the days pass and the behavior of the producer becomes increasingly suspicous, the actress suspects that there is something sinister afoot. Trapped in a faraway mansion with no one to help her, she must call upon every ounce of her wit and talent to survive.

Dvd arrived quickly and well packaged and taken care of. The item was listed as acceptable and met all of my needs but here's a quick description of what I got: Some wear is visible on the plastic sleeve on the outside of the case. The inside leaflet was still there! The disk has about 3 very notable scratches, although none are bigger than about 2 centimeters. Little to no grime anywhere on the product. Great service!

    Intelligent Psychological Horror

    This film starts off slow, so if you're a fan of the type of horror movie that's a slash-a-minute gorefest, you may be tempted to stop watching. Make no mistake, what happens to Mary Steenburgen's character IS horrifying, and you WILL see corpses; but before you get to that point, there's mystery and psychological suspense that reminded me of an old gothic novel. Woman accepts job at isolated mansion; her employer seems friendly at first; later it seems he is trying to drive her insane or murder her or both...or is it all in her imagination? An intelligent film with good performances.

    Don’t loan out your DVDs

    This is the third time I’ve had to buy this movie . I enjoyed “Dead of Winter” and will review it on my show. The perfect film to watch on a snowy afternoon.

    Dead of Winter

    Watched this movie "back in the day" and loved it. After watching "One Magic Christmas" with three of the same characters in it, I remembered this one and just had to buy it. Very original plot, not predictable at all.
