Brilliant story and performance.
Not too many movies are made about Downtown City Hall. Politics, Crime and Corruption along with backroom deals and favors. Excellent performance from a strong cast of actors such as Al Pacino. Martin Landeau, Danny Aiello, Tony Franciosa, with Bridgette Fonda and of course John Cusack. Excellent supporting actors such as David Paymer, Richard Schiff and Mel Winkler. The Domino effect of one tragic multiple shooting rips apart the administration of the Mayor of New York. As the layers are peeled away the Deputy Mayor finds more to the story that he undoubtedly wants to know. This is how governments work. Al Pacino Delivers Another Riveting Politic Performance
(This will probably be one of the shortest reviews I've ever composed because to do otherwise would spoil the show!). Al Pacino steals the show, hands down. The story is about how the behind the scene politics of a mayor's office are played out when a young child is caught between the cross-fire between the police & a drug dealer. Unfortunately the 6yo is killed. From there, all hell breaks loose. The most interesting thing about "City Hall" is that it likely is too true to life in US politics.(This will probably be one of the shortest reviews I've ever composed because to do otherwise would spoil the show!). Al Pacino steals the show, hands down. NYC politics in the 1990's with an average plot but 2 great male leads
New York politics in the 1990's. Al Pacino is the Mayor, John Cusack the Deputy Mayor originally from Louisiana. But gunplay between a Cop and a small time criminal with Mafia ties leaves a small boy dead and a community in upheaval. Cusack and Pacino are incredible together. Plot is fairly predictible, but the chemistry between Cusack and Pacino makes it all worthwhile. The last 10 minutes there's a scene between these two that is one of my favorites scenes in dramatic cinema.New York politics in the 1990's.
