  • Toho Gem

War of the Gargantuas is probably the best of the Japanese giant monster flicks. The creatures are like two super huge Bigfoots battling it out to the death. One of the too creatures is gentle and poignantly cares for even the evil creature. But when the green one (the evil one is green) eats people, the good creature (brown Gargantua) engages in a battle to the death with his emerald brother. Like King Kong, their is a lovely woman involved, but much more rationally, the big beasty isn't really interested in her so much as he is just trying to protect her and everyone else from his evil brother. This movie also has one more advantage which most other giant monster movies don't; the brown Gargantua is more identifiable with the audience because he is more humanoid, and the green Gargantua ...

  • Its A Japanese Rubber Monster Costume, Whaddya Expect?

I wanted to see Gargantuas, actually ended up enjoying Rodan a wee bit more. Both movies are of the rubber monster costume variety. You can have a taste for these about the same way one could the old Universal monster movies (Wolfman, Frankenstein, Mummy, Dracula, etc.) Get a good variety of either one rolling, they will satisfy a need. Rodan actually gives hint to some comprehension and understanding of the results a giant monster emerging; there wouldn't be just one and there would be a connection on the food chain, with the previous giant bugs believed to be the major threat. This has actually been covered in others of these movies. Gargantua, on the other hand, seemed uncertain as to what it wanted. Clearly the green G was supposed to grab that jet overhead, resulting in a shot of ...

  • The Words Get Stuck In My Throat

That song alone is reason enough to purchase this DVD. But overall, I love these old films and can't get enough of them. There is something about this genre that's both entertaining and oddly comforting. As simple as the effects are in these films, you can still tell a lot of thought was put into them. Whether it's Rodan or War of the Gargantuas, it's a sure fire fun evening, so pop the corn, chill the sodas and have a good time.

  • Rodan/ War of the Gargantuas - LOVE IT!

RODAN and THE WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS are two of Toho's best giant monster films, and both were subjected to awkward and unnecessary Americanization jobs. With this welcome release, USA fans can now easily and cheaply make their comparisons, as Japanese and USA versions of both films are generously included. This film so brought me back to my childhood. Saturday night with popcorn to watch one of the great Japanese monster movie. It was one of my favorite pass time with my Dad. This one is one of the classics! And you get two for the price of one! Excellent!
