Great stories, but old CGI
I was a teenager when Beast Wars first hit TV and quickly became a fan, like many others. My 7 year old son recently had his mind blown when I told him there was a Transformers show where they turned into animals and we tracked down this DVD set. Story wise, the show still holds up extremely well and is a great watch. It does a fantastic job of following up the old, 80s series. However, as you can imagine, the CGI animation is definitely a product if it’s time. Definitely not unwatchable, but it definitely has the feel and look of mid 90s computer work, so it definitely takes a while to adjust back too. Nostalgia at its finest
I'm not quite sure how much nostalgia plays on your everyday life, because its huge to me. The main reason I bught this was because I like to look back on something that totally blew my mind when I saw it on t.v.: A completely computer generated show! (this show came out before Jimmy Neutron mind you) and I remember settling down to watch it at every week with my brother to watch robots transform into animals to beat up other robots transforming into... well animals. The series starts off weak, with little character development until around mid-season, at which point nearly every character is observed deeper and more closely than I would expect from a show that focuses mainly on theatrics in lightning and sounds. I also noticed that as the series progressed, the environment in which the ... I'm not quite sure how much nostalgia plays on your everyday life, because its huge to me. I recommend this to everyone who has ever enjoyed playing with Transformers toys, read the comics, or watched the old cartoon :)

I grew up watching Beast Wars and wanted to relive part of my childhood with my girlfriends boys. They are both young and like the newer dumber cartoons. MainFrame is noted for producing many computer animated shows, such as "Reboot", "War Planets", "Spider-Man" (animated series that appeared on MTV), and more. Transformers: Beast Wars is an excellent addition to the Transformers storyline as it takes place many years (perhaps hundreds) after the Transformers generation 1 storyline, but makes an interesting tie-in with the original Transformers stories fans of the 80s knew & grew up with. While there are many differences in this series, one being the fact that we aren't seeing robots change into machines or vehicles and rather into living creatures, the common element of good vs. evil still prevails. The good guys we knew as Autobots are now Maximals; their counterparts that were the Decepticons are now Predacons. In this story, a Maximal exploration crew is reluctantly commissioned to capture a group of Predacons who have stolen an ancient artifact from the Transformers home world, Cybertron. In the pursuit, a space battle engages and throws both the Maximal and Predacon ships off-course, landing both on a strange world rich of the element they use for fuel, known as Energon. However, the abundant supply becomes too much of a good thing and literally overloads them in their robot forms. Only by adapting to the planet in the forms of existing beings, which appear to be animals ranging from mammals, reptiles and even insects, are they able to cope with the excess fuel resources. The balance of power shifts to the Predacons as they find this worlds resources to be what they need to tip the scales of leadership to the Predacon faction. The Maximals realizing this, also understand that they now have their work seriously cut out for them as they need to determine where exactly they are & even when they are considering the pursuit had them traveling through a worm hole - they could be in any time! Unable to contact their home base and stranded on a foreign world with a damaged space ship, the Maximals do what they can to adapt to the planet, find a way home, regain the artifact and prevent Predacon control from what eventually develops into the Beast Wars. But to make matters worse, this strange planet has a bit of mystery to it as there are sentient beings that appear to have a great deal of interest in the planet. Shrouded behind mystery, these sentient beings see the transformers as trespassers to the planet. Almost one step ahead of their uninvited guests, the sentient beings have plenty of traps in store for anyone who comes to the planet without a welcome. This smells of doom for both factions. Seasons 2 and 3 bridge the gaps between The Beast Wars storyline and the Original Transformers generation 1 storyline. To truly enjoy the story presented, you need to see all three seasons, especially considering the Season 1 finale - Season 2 answers many of the questions posed by the end of Season 1. This Season 1 DVD set contains 4 DVDs with a running time of over 600 minutes. The CGI used for this series may steer some away because of the early, more traditional ways of depicting the stories of the Transformers through cartoon animation, but it should not be ignored as it was done very well for a TV series lasting 3 seasons. The Beast Wars series, both in its story and its art, is presented very well in ways that both child and more mature audiences can appreciate.

You can imagine I wasn't too open minded in watching this because of transformers in the title, but it wasn't too long before I was hooked! I'm not too sure, but this was made by the same makers of Reboot, another great CG toon. Also disregard raftazz's review, as he obviosly didn't understand the review section. I would also like to say be careful in purchasing DVDs on ebay, especially anime. There are many *bleep*s out there that sell bootleg copies. I am too inexperienced to give advice to this, but if you go to the reviews and guidelines section of ebay and type anime or bootleg you will find a number of good guides on ...
