Excellent documentary on Castro's Cuba through its music and culture
As a Puerto Rican, I can identify with the music and culture of Cuba today, noting the similarities between the two islands. THE "casitas" are there, the language and dialects are the same, the music is undeniably the same. My mother, who spent the first 22 years of her life in Puerto Rico until 1948 watched the DVD with me and sang the old songs along with the artists although she hadn't heard them in decades. She was transfixed to the screen reminiscing about her youth and the similarities between the two cultures. One thing I did note, was the lack of current model US automobiles. It was like time just stopped in 1959 or 1960 when Castro took over. This movie is an amazing documentary about Castro's Cuba and how it differs from the Puerto Rico, because of the US influence, but how ... History full of great Cuban music
This is a great effort to tell the history of Cuba's forgotten musicians. At a time were Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Mexico were the center of latin music. This were forgotten musicians, but the best of the best. Their "revival" was a sensation, and true music lovers of all races fell in love with their sound. Highly recommended, a pieces of music history.
