    More Things to Find Out

That Thing You Do was a very entertaining movie when it was first released in 96 or 97. This version with all the extra footage makes more sense out of the film. There were a lot more things to find out that just didn't connect in the original release that now not only are explained but make the movie even more watchable. I rate it 5-Stars and have already watched it twice again.

  • Great movie that the whole family can view.Bonus Scenes

Really liked this movie when it came out. Plot, music and acting is top notch. Got the regular DVD years back and the whole family loves it. Got this new Director's cut as reviews were good and we just had to have more. Although I would recommend the original cut for its bubbling excitement and pacing, fans should view this 30 minute longer version as it really fleshes out the plot. The extras on the second disc are great but don't trade in the first issue as some of those extras are not included. Good news is that both versions of the movie are included on disc one. Rated PG. You will not be able to get the song out of your head. I had to buy the soundtrack!

  • Entertaining From Beginning to End - TTYD Delivers Fun!

Maybe Tom Hank's best piece of work ever, as he is so totally indulged in every aspect of this movie's creative development. Music, story, characters, directing and a key role, all mastered by Hank's. This is an excellent story - and for those who have lived through the life of starting a band and trying to make something of it - you will know the pure truth of every aspect of this movie. Absolutely perfect casting sets up this delightful adventure that exposes relationships between those as deep as immediate family, lovers, supervisor/employee, to those as shallow as co-worker/peers and picking up a hot barmaid. The props are very authentic, the musicianship of the actors is spot-on and the story is positive, happy, uplifting and suitable for the whole family to enjoy. ...

  • A great movie, with an extended cut for the real fans.

This "Tom Hanks Extended Cut" of "That Thing You Do" adds a lot of footage, changes some plot details slightly, and changes the tone and pacing quite a bit. I would say releasing the theatrical cut was the 'right decision' and if I had seen the extended version first, I might not be as much of a fan of the movie. But already being a fan, the added scenes here are a real treat, and they answer some questions, like why Guy likes saying "I am Spartacus!" This edition contains both the theatrical and extended cuts, and a disk of special features, so if you want to own this movie, this is the edition to have.

  • The Good and The Bad

First, let me say that I LOVE this movie! I saw That Thing You Do the day it opened in theaters and thought it was great. I considered it a home run for Tom Hanks as a first time writer and director. He had said he wanted people to leave the show feeling like they'd had a nice breath of fresh air from Hollywood. And, that's EXACTLY how I felt about it. There were a few plot questions I had, though. For example, did Mr. White INTENTIONALLY orchestrate the breakup of the Wonders (the band formerly known as the One-ders)? And, if so, why? What about the Jimmy and Faye relationship? Did he break them up on purpose, too? (That "Careful Girls, He's Engaged!" comment didn't appear on the Hollywood Television Showcase by itself.) Maybe he saw the ...
