  • Help Is NOT On The Way!

As part of our eBay Blog Posts we are watching all the movies based on comic books or comic strips etc to see if they are entertaining or even watchable.... This 1980 movie is about an out-of-work actor named Steve Nichols who is mistaken for the "Captain Avenger" character from a comic book movie that he was hired to promote at a theater showing! The actor, (played by "Three's Company" star John Ritter), does a good deed at a neighboring grocery store while in costume. When the selfless act is played up on a TV channel he decides to act out the role of the 'reel superhero' in real life! Of course he is not a real superhero and in an act of stupid bravado gets shot in the arm during a drug bust chase in his second act as Captain Avenger. He makes it back to his apartment but is locked ...

  • Old fashioned corn and worth every bite

Hero At Large stars John Ritter (Three's Company) and Anne Archer. Ritter is a down on his luck actor who plays Captain Avenger (your generic royalty free Hollywood superhero who is so lame he wears a sunvisor instead of a mask). He does personal appearances and believes in the wholesome nature of Captain Avenger. He foils a holdup and becomes a hero. Bert Convoy is a sleazy agent who stages an event for the publicity. All goes wrong but Ritter comes through in the end and proves himself a true hero. An old fashioned movie, with a corny ending-and I loved it! Some people seem to have a problem with superheroes being selfless heroes. I pity you. If you want to see a feel good movie which you can show your kids without explaining why the hero is such a psycho, this is for you. If your idea ...

  • I'm Expanding

Great flick about a great guy who didn't finish last. Probably one of Ritter's best works. Sure he's playing a familiar character: the nice guy from a small town looking for bright lights and fame. Sure you need to suspend belief at times, but generally a great light weight film with a message, something you'd believe John himself would believe in. Anne Archer is terrific and sexy as the love interest and Bert Convy does a great job as the unscrupulous Ad man.

  • "Great Comedy!"

John Ritter and Anne Archer star in this 1978 comedy. A struggling actor literally gets into character as a comic book hero. I think this is one of John's best and he and anne were great together. This dvd has good picture and sound, but only the trailer. Get this great comedy.
