Older cameras can be a find.
If quality pictures are your main goal, then an older camera may fit the bill. It won’t have all the bells and whistles as with newer models but with good optics and sensor you can take great pictures. This camera has great flexibility for those who wish to be creative and manage their photo taking experience. Typical manual overrides are easy to master quickly. The one thing I would caution about buying a 12 year old camera is the possibility of a dead internal battery. This is the case the the one that I purchased. You will find each time you take the battery out to charge it that you will have to reset the date and time and any other settings that you have changed from defaults. The little camera that can.
I'm getting older. Camera weight is an issue. I purchased all the Nikon 1 cameras and all but one lens. I really liked the idea of less weight but with all "the stuff"... But they are To Small, causing accidental touching of important controls. None were "pocket" cameras, so the small size made no sense. Thus the Z50. I don't think its worth the change and another set of Lenses. So I'm trying out both the A10, and the A1000... true pocket cameras with a very impressive zoom range in the A1000. I also have both the Coolpix B500 and the P500, light weight again, great zooms but fragile and not pocket cameras. So far the A1000 exceeds my expectations. The lens can be manually focused, the auto focus also works well in low light., exposer perfect. It feels good, all the controls placed were I ... I'm getting older. Camera weight is an issue. Great camera with good tech support
I had a thirty dollar vivitar and thought it was worthless for decent photography. This camera offers decent zoom control and produces nice stills with it's built in flash. the price of $325 was the cheapest I found for a homebody type person such as myself. I am satisfied with it on this day.

Good camera minus low light conditions.
I've owned five different Coolpix model cameras and the A1000 is by far the best model yet. It's compact enough for me to carry in my motorcycle leather vest so I can stop and take pics on the fly, yet takes good quality photographs and surprisingly good video. My only comlaint is the LCD display is not as bright as previously owned camera even when I change the intensiity from 3 to 5, so using the display is difficult to impossible if wearing sunglasses as we do here in Florida. However, given the short comings of the LCD display I still recommend the Coolpix A1000 camera to those shopping for a camera that is affordable and easy to use.I've owned five different Coolpix model cameras and the A1000 is by far the best model yet. Excellent Camera
This is a great camera, especially for street photography. I also have pro DSLR cameras and am an experienced photographer. This camera shoots in RAW, has 35x optical zoom (optical zoom is what you want, not digital zoom), a tilting screen, and an electronic viewfinder. Great for street photography because it's small to carry, you don't look like a pro shooting with it so you blend in, you can use the tilting screen, turn the sounds of and it doesn't look like you are even shooting, then go home and process your RAW images to get all the detail out of the files.
