    Synopsis
Foote's comprehensive history of the Civil War includes three compelling volumes: Fort Sumter to Perryville, Fredericksburg to Meridian, and Red River to Appomattox. Collected together in a handsome boxed set, this is the perfect gift for any Civil War buff. Fort Sumter to Perryville The first volume opens with Jefferson Davis's farewell to the United States Senate and ends on the bloody battlefields of Antietam and Perryville, as the full, horrible scope of America's great war becomes clear. Fredericksburg to Meridian Focused on the pivotal year of 1863, the second volume of Shelby Foote's masterful narrative history brings to life the Battle of Gettysburg and Grant's Vicksburg campaign and covers some of the most dramatic and important moments in the Civil War. Red River to Appomattox This final volume brings to life the military endgame, the surrender at Appomattox, and the tragic dénouement of the war--the assassination of President Lincoln., Foote's comprehensive history of the Civil War includes three compelling volumes: Fort Sumter to Perryville, Fredericksburg to Meridian, and Red River to Appomattox. If you only read one civil war source, this is it!

I was fascinated with Shelby Foote and his perspective on the civil war when I was glued to the Ken Burns series on tv many years ago. From time to time I purchased books on Amazon for my Kindle and saw the three volume series for sale on eBay at a really good price. Each volume is around 800 pages and I have almost finished volume 1. I can’t stop reading! This is the best and while Shelby Foote is from the south, there is no southern bias here and I highly recommend The Civil War A Narrative

      • Exceptional Work

This is my second reading of the series. My first was over twenty years ago. The writing is exceptionalities and the insights and facts align well with other books I have read. Shelby Foote was outstanding in all respects. He puts the reader in the history
