NSNA: a better send-off for Connery as Bond than the "Diamonds are Forever"?
Iconic: Sean Connery as James Bond. Iconic: James Bond in Thunderball. Never Say Never Again is one of only two Bond movies made outside of Eon Productions, and is a remake of the 1965 film Thunderball. As a remake of Thunderball, NSNA director Irvin Kershner, of Empire Strikes Back fame, comes up short. Kershner loses focus on his characters and keeps falling back on the usual Bond boilerplate. Kim, Klaus and Barbara try to keep things interesting, but they lack the gravitas of other Bond villains. The insertion of McCowen as Q, and “Mr Bean” Atkinson as Agent Small-Foot as inside jokes against the uber-strong, Broccoli-owned Eon Productions, the official Bond movie-making machine, falls short here and seems ill-fitting and out of place. It's just sort of... there, being the bloated, over-long, but not terrible film that it is," as one critic noted. NSNA begins w an aging Bond making a laboring effort in the field and ends up as a laboring Bond tale. Too Bad! So much promise in its make up, but so uneven in its follow through. One critic does argue that NSNA is a better send-off for Connery as Bond than the "Diamonds are Forever" tale turned out to be.

Sean Connery's reprised role as James Bond is perfect to add to your collection. We're looking at 54 years for the James Bond Franchise. They must be doing something right to last that long. Connery was the first. The movie came quickly and in great shape!

Weak 007 Entry
A so-so remake of Thunderball. I see this as the weakest of the Sean Connery entries into the James Bond series. Not seeing the movie yet I had to have it to complete my collection. Also, I found the music score completely lacking of the 007 theme music. Rewatchability? Probably not.
