The Intel E6600 is a capable mid-range microprocessor that gives your aging motherboard a second life.Compared to previous generations of chips, the Intel Core 2 Duo features a number of hardware specifications and improvements to the processor's architecture. The Core 2 Duo E6600 has 4MB of L2 cache, which is the part of the microprocessor that stores the most frequently accessed data on the CPU. This is twice as large as the L2 cache on the E6300 and E6400 processors in the same family. It also features a 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), which carries data between the CPU and the memory controller hub. That means swifter speeds for you as the user. The Core 2 Duo E6600 microprocessor operates on a 64-bit instruction set, but it's also binary compatible with its 32-bit software. Virtualization technology allows you to run a virtual machine, which is essentially a second system, on one physical computer. Use the virtual machine for testing, tinkering, and tweaking while leaving your regular system untouched. The Core 2 Duo E6600 has an LGA 775 socket, so it is compatible with a wide array of different motherboards.The Core 2 Duo microprocessor was designed to take advantage of a number of innovative Intel features that optimize the performance of your CPU.     Stops random rebooting

    My computer would reboot at random and seemed to be getting more frequent. After replacing the old processor with this one it hasn't rebooted once. I did improve the odds by using good heatsink compound and getting it spread into a very thin layer with full coverage.
