Old Temperamental Technology Still Works
It is old technology that I'm using to convert footage from 8 mm tapes to a digital format that I can save on my computer. This camcorder works but needs a bit of tender-love-and-care to get it to play through the tapes as it stops and needs some type of reset (involving removing and reinserting the battery and/or ejecting and re-inserting the tape). I'll probably need to get some tape head cleaner to get it function better. I'm pleased that I'm able to do the work-arounds and at least play the footage with a goal to convert so that I won't have to rely on the slow technology of rewinding and playing around with tapes. Wonderful camcorder for copying 8mm
The camcorder arrived fast and packaged extremely protective. The camcorder appears and works just like a brand new one. I have already used it to copy around ten hours of old 8mm directly onto a DVD disk. The picture quality and color is outstanding. I am very pleased with it.

Great camcorder. Sony is the best.
I bought this to convert my old HI8 tapes to dvd's. It works great. I had a Sony very similar to this that I loved. Unfortunately I loaned it to someone and it was never returned. This camera is easy to operate. I haven't really used it for video taping but in my few test shots it's as good as my old one. Sony is #1 in my book. I ran into a 'user' problem, nothing to do with the camera operation. I ended up calling their customer service 3 different times and they were fantastic, extremely helpful even though it was a discontinued product.I bought this to convert my old HI8 tapes to dvd's.
