    A good ship model even after 60+ years in the market place.

    This Revell kit originally dates back to 1957. When introduced to the model builders' market it was better than most of the kits available at that time. By today's standards there is much to be desired but this is to be expected after 60+ years. Yet the kit has been reissued about ten times over the decades, sometimes under different names and even different national flags and still seems to be popular in the model ship builders' market place. This kit is made in the 1:249 scale. Today many of the ship model kits are offered in one of two popular scales; 1:350 and 1:700, plus numerous less popular scales. 1:249 is referred to as "box scale" which simply means that the manufacturers had standard sized boxes and their various kits were designed to fit one of those boxes.
