About this product

Product Information

In Reign of Fire, based on the 2002 movie starring Matthew McConaughey, players have a choice of fighting for human survival against the onslaught of the dragons or trying to stop the human resistance as one of the fire-breathing beasts. The latter option is unlocked only after you successfully complete several human-based missions as a Kentucky Irregular under the leadership of Denton Van Zan, utilizing vehicles including a 4x4 jeep, fire truck, tank, or buggy. Playing as a dragon, you must unleash a rain of fire on weapons of human resistance by spitting fireballs and breathing napalm.

The vehicle-based human arsenal consists of such diverse weapons as a light machine gun turret, a tank cannon, ground-to-air rockets, heat-seeking missiles, a water cannon, and water grenades. Human enemies range from young Jakyls, who try to ram vehicles, to swarms of giant napalm breathers looking to toast anything in sight. As a human, the dragons aren't the only concern, as failing to carry out the uncompromising Van Zan's mission orders will also land you in hot water or worse. Dragons, in addition to their fire-based arsenal, can also pick up objects, like humans and vehicles, and use them as bombs.

Reign of Fire contains extras in the form of movie clips and Mad at Gravity's music video "Walk Away." The game features a total of 16 missions, a radar-based HUD for both dragons and humans with color-coded bars and gauges tracking various items such as targets, allies, ammunition, attack strength, stamina, health, and so forth, and a save game function that requires an 8MB memory card.

  • I would give it a B+

Reign of Fire was a pretty fun game to play. I felt that it was a game that you play hard when you first get it, but then just play every once in a while after a time. The only reason I bought this game was because you can play as the dragon as well as a human. I found it incredibly fun to swoop down and pick people up and then drop them, or drop vehicles on them. The graphics are pretty good and the game does have voices. The game has some missions that I thought were fairly difficult or just aggravating. Don't despair if you feel like crushing up the game; there are some cheats you can find around the internet if you get too frustrated (or just plain bored with the game because some of the cheats are quite interesting). I would recommend it to people who like mayhem, shooting things, ...

  • Reign of Fire (PS2) Great, but doesn't follow the movie

This was bought as a gift for a 14 year old boy. He is thrilled with it. I have to admit it is fun. It'll wake you up better than a cup of coffee. It is rated "M" for Mature; "blood and violence." Most "Mature" games contain too much unnecessary violence, in my opinion, and we normally don't purchase them. This game had originally been rated "T" for "Teen" anyway. It is definitely violent with humans slaying dragons and dragons slaying humans. There is some blood, but it's not as gory as many of the war-based "Mature" games or the zombie-based "Left For Dead."

  • It's All Good...

I bought this product for my seven year-old son. i thought it would be too hard for him, but I decided to get it anyway because he loves dragons and is somewhat an advanced player. The game itself was easy to catch on if you're the video game type. The story was good and stuck to the movie in many ways. The graphics were also pretty cool. After about three weeks of playing it straight, he's grown tired of it, but it was worth what we paid for it. He still plays every now and then, but overall I think it was a good game.

  • A great game that mixes mideavel legends with modern day weapons.

An interesting game with a very unique story; it mixes old medieval legends with modern day artillery. You get to fight dragons with various military advantages of today's technology. Although the controls are not the best, the game is still a very fun vehicle-based shooter.

  • Nice copy

Played and it works well!! This was a weird memory for me and I'm glad I remembered what it was !
