About this product

Product Information

Martin Cortland, a philandering Broadway producer, has the habit of hitting on chorus girls and giving them expensive trinkets. Whenever he finds himself in trouble with Mrs. Cortland, Martin just coerces dancer-director Robert Curtis (Fred Astaire) into taking the blame for his overtures. This time, Mrs. Cortland catches Martin hitting on Sheila Winthrop (Rita Hayworth)-- an affable and alluringly beautiful woman. Robert agrees to bail Cortland out one more time, but he finds himself in trouble with Shelia's protective older brother. Robert joins the Army to avoid confronting Shelia's sibling, only to discover he's an officer in the army. Luckily, Martin is going to produce a show for the troops and hire Robert to direct the effort -- keeping him safe from bodily harm. Robert may be in the army now, but at least he can woo lovely Shelia for himself. Academy Award Nominations: Best Song ("Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye"), Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.

Great experience. Came well packaged and go exactly what I ordered. No Complaints. I prefer no shipping costs, but it can get expensive these days to mail packages.

  • Superb Astaire-Hayworth Musical

I have seen nearly every musical Fred Astaire made, and You'll Never Get Rich (1941) is among my favorites. Ginger Rogers and Astaire are widely recognized as the best dance pair on the screen, but Rita Hayworth has got to be a close second. Rita is fantastic in this film, bringing all the talent and beauty the role requires and more. She plays a dancer who is pursued by a philandering Broadway producer (Robert Benchley). He buys her an engraved diamond bracelet but gets caught by his wife. In the sort of confusion and switcheroos frequently found in Astaire musicals, Hayworth is pawned off to Fred, the show's choreographer and star dancer, to whom she is attracted. He falls for her too but is chased off by her fiance (John Hubbard), whom he didn't know she had, and joins the army. ...

  • Very Good Movie!

I enjoyed it, although I liked You Were Never Lovelier better; it had some great songs and dance numbers and that is important to me! Surprised that Rita Hayworth was such a great dancer!

  • Beautiful!

If you like Astaire and Rodgers, you'll love Astaire and Hayworth. The plot is as unlikely as that in the older pair's classic movies, to be sure. The songs, however, are great, and the dancing and singing are heavenly. It's going to get repeated viewings at this house for sure!
