I really enjoyed this movie, but it wasn't one of Ben Stiller's best. It starts with a guy named Reuben who is an insurance risk analyst who checks the pros and cons of everything he does or might do. He is on his honeymoon with his wife Lisa, who dumps him for a scuba instructor. A few days later when Reuben is back in New York he meets Polly Prince at a gallery opening. They start going out on dates. She's adventurous and afraid of commitment while he's overanxious about anything. He tries out her world of salsa dancing and spicy food, which makes him highly uncomfortable. Reuben does break out of his shell and starts opening up to new things eventually. Reuben and Polly begin dating, with her introducing him to activities he once wrote off as "too risky," such as eating at a Moroccan restaurant and salsa dancing, which culminates with the pair enthusiastically sleeping together, with Reuben shouting "50" as he orgasms. Polly joins Reuben on a sailing trip he's going in order to inspect Leland Van Lew (Bryan Brown), a high risk client, but gets offended when she sees his risk analysis of herself and rejects his proposal to move in together, telling him that he'd be better off going back to Lisa. Back home, Reuben tries talking to Polly but to no avail. He eventually invites Lisa to Sandy's opening show, where he learns that Polly is leaving New York in a few hours. After a speech given by his father, Irving (Bob Dishy), to Sandy, Reuben realizes he wants to be with Polly and not Lisa, and he rushes to her apartment to stop her from leaving. Polly is not convinced she should stay with him, so Reuben eats food off the ground to prove he is capable of taking risks. The movie ends with Reuben and Polly on the beach where he and Lisa had their honeymoon at the beginning of the film. Reuben again encounters Claude, but instead of being angry he thanks Claude, and then heads into the water with Polly.

Funny...
"Along came Polly" starring Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Alec Baldwin, and, in one of the greatest performances I have ever seen by an actor, Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Let me just cut to the chase: This is not a great movie. If you have $$$ to blow and want a couple of good laughs, go ahead. There are worse things to see than this. I found myself getting board whenever there was a scene without Phillip Seymour Hoffman. His character was what kept this film from sinking, his performance so gutsy and over the top, that the main story of Ben Stiller and Jen was overshadowed. I would have like to have Ben and Jen be the support, and have a movie about the Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Alec Balwin characters. These two throw in the kitchen sink with their performances. Along came Polly
This a great movie. I had seen it before and wanted to add it to my collection. Ben Steller is great in this movie and doesn't disappoint the viewer. The movie starts as a hard luck movie but evolves into a very touching and real story line. It is very much believable and a viewer can relate to what he is going through. One of my favorite scenes is where Ben and Jennifer are turning down the bed which has hundreds, it seems, of decorative pillows on the bed that actually have a storage box especially designed for them. Jennifer is confused about the reason for so many pillows and shows Ben what she really feels about them. It was a great scene and if any guy takes his girl to see it or watches it at home, I am sure that the guys will feel just what Jennifer feels about the pillows. I think ... This a great movie. I think that the writers gave a roll reversal aspect to the scene and the male audiance will appreciate it 100%. I would recommend this to anyone. There weren't sex scenes that would offend anyone, which is something that I prefer in a movie. When Ben decides to fight for Jennifer the Salsa scene was over the top and I truly enjoyed it. This is another one of those feel good movies about love, loss, and to love again movies and you leave feeling there is hope in the world after a failed relationship. I give this movie my thumbs up!!!!
