  • The definitive source for commission rifles.

Over the years many people have written about the german 1888 commission rifles, but never to this extent. Writers such as Goetz, Walter & others merely included brief information on the Gew 88. Being an avid collector of 1888 commission rifles, I was delighted to find out about this new book called A Collector's Guide to the German Gew. 88 Commission Rifle & I bought a copy fresh off the initial press. I was very pleased at the well thought out, well organized & well written book that included many photographs of both the rifles as well as soldiers equipped with the rifle. This book covers everything from development to it's use in the wars & ballistics & load data as well as some history on it's predecessors & similar variants produced. Overall I'd say this is a fantastic book that ...

  • Very informative material on the rifle, appendages and its history.

I've had my Gewer 88 Commission Rifle for about 35 years and for the longest time didn't know much about the history of this gun. Over the years I learned some things about the weapon, some true some false...nothing definitive. Then after discovering the internet (about 15 years ago) I learned a lot more, but still didn't know all that I wanted to about it. Then I discovered; A Collector's Guide to the German Gew. 88 Commission Rifle by Paul S. Scarlata....man am I glad I did! I'm just getting started on this book but have already learned more about my rifle than what I'd learned in all the years previous. This is a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about their Gewer 88.

  • The latest in a great series

Once again Paul does us proud. I have used two of his previous productions extensively "collecting classic bolt action military rifles" and "Mannlicher Military Rifles: Straight Pull and Turn Bolt Designs" - this promises to be every bit as good and I am so pleased he has taken the time to write this. I particularly enjoy the fact that he not only has great pictures of the variants of the 88, as well as similar rifles, but also many pictures of them being held by various armed forces of the day. It is a shooter/historians goldmine of information.
