Product Information

In Robert Aldrich's stirring film, an indominable Apache fighter, Massai (Burt Lancaster), refuses to accept the defeat of his people signaled by the surrender of his legendary chief, Geronimo (Monte Blue). Likewise, he will not swallow the pronouncement of a foe, Indian scout Al Sieber (John McIntyre), who tells Massai (with the latter securely bound in chains), "You're not a warrior, just a whipped Indian." Massai escapes a train headed for a reservation in Florida and resumes his quest to find a way of life beyond the suffocating subjugation of the white man. Sieber comes after him, as does a fully assimilated Indian, Hondo (Charles Bronson), who has been whipped into a murderous rage because Massai has stolen the heart of his woman, Nalinle (Jean Peters). Lancaster delivers a passionate performance, and Aldrich girds his tale of the defiant warrior with powerful, iconic imagery worthy of myth, making for a film that ventures into the genre of the Western but stakes out a spacious territory all its own.

Raton Pass (1951) is an unusual. seldom seen and very exciting western starring Dennis Morgan, Patricia Neal, and the great Steve Cochran.     I Love This Movie and Highly Recommend It!

    Great movie that I have watched since I was a child because I always had a fascination with American Indians (all tribes).This one is about the last hostile Apache (not Geronimo) Massai.The Movie is hardly ever on television so I am thrilled to have a copy of my own that I can watch whenever I want. The Arizona scenery and color are Beautiful but the only drawback is that the transfer quality of this movie to DVD is not as good as it should be and I knew this before my purchase.The color and resolution are okay but this movie deserves a High Quality remaster because of the beautiful scenic terrain.I still give it high marks because it is a very watchable copy and and a great story with excellent acting by Burt Lancaster,Jean Peters,Charles Bronson,and the rest.If you like Indian ...

    OUT OF ALL THE WESTERNS THAT BURT LANCASTER WAS IN THIS WAS THE BEST ROLE FOR HIM. ALSO JEAN PETERS HAD A VERY MUCH BETTER PART IN THIS ONE THAN SHE HAD IN BROKEN LANCE.
