About this product

Product Information

In 1970, one of Mississippi's more colorful weekly newspapers,The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a 23 year-old college dropout, named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courthouse in Clanton, Mississippi. The trial came to a startling and dramatic end when the defendant threatened revenge against the jurors if they convicted him. Nevertheless, they found him guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison. But in Mississippi in 1970, "life" didn't necessarily mean "life," and nine years later Danny Padgitt managed to get himself paroled. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began. From the Hardcover edition.

  • The Last Juror

This book is a great read for anyone who loves literature about southern life in the bible belt. It's insightful in that it brings to light the southern culture by incorporating the cuisine of low country food, the deep south's religious influences, and a compelling plot based on the corruptness that can prevail in Southern Politics. The characters come to life vividly. Readers who have not experienced the ways of Southerners gain a truthful account of southern hospitality, but also their almost stubborn slowness to accept and trust a non-southerner. In the South you have to earn respect to be fully accepted, but once you do you are forever one of them and Southerners are loyal to their friends and family. This book introduces the reader to a unlikely juror who is a true southern lady, ...

I think that the Last Juror is not only John Grisham`s best book recently, but also one of his best books ever. I really loved the characters and relationships in it. Plus i thought that progression through the years was very well written. I highly recommend The Last Juror to all booklovers.
