The company known for both defining and refining the genre returns to real-time strategy with this third full release in its longest-running series. Billed as a "Role-Playing Strategy," Blizzard's WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos offers a bit more than the standard resource management and army building common to contemporary RTS games. Players control smaller parties of troops and heroes who must interact with NPCs and accomplish quests, as well as out-fight and outwit the forces of the enemy.<br><br>The game's prologue is set several years after the monumental battle at the end of WarCraft II. Several orcs were trapped in Azeroth when the Dark Portal was finally destroyed and many have been forced to live as slaves to the humans, who have grown rich and restless in the ensuing years. But tedious manual labor does not come naturally to all orcs. One such slave, a young orc named Thrall, feels the warrior spirit burning deep inside his being. He breaks free of captivity and sets off across the countryside, gathering fellow lost orcs among his ranks. Rising as a powerful leader among these expatriate warriors, Thrall vows to lead Azeroth's orcs back to the honor and greatness their heritage demands.<br><br>WarCraft III features four distinct races - human, orc, undead, and night elf -- each with unique units and special abilities. Manageably small parties of warriors are led by impressive heroes who carry over through the game's missions, bringing further continuity to the storyline. Heroes gain experience as they progress through missions, becoming increasingly powerful as the story moves forward. Special weapons and magic items may also aid the heroes as they fight towards their final destinies.<br><br>WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos includes a map editor that supports all of the game's tile sets as well as unit scripts and event triggers, allowing inspired gamers to create their own professional-quality adventures. Like all recent Blizzard games, WarCraft III supports multiplayer gaming over the proprietary Battle.net system of servers. In addition to ruthless head-to-head warfare, multiple modes of online play also allow for cooperative team adventuring.

    Nostalgia 101

    Hours of gameplay as a kid forced me to seek out this game as an adult.. Glad there are still Brand New copies out there. If you like older computer games and the Warcraft series, Reign of Chaos is a worthy title.

    Warcraft III

    Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is a good addidtion to the series. This one changes the format to 3D, though it is still very colorful and stylized as the previous two. The A.I. in this real-time strategy game is pretty good, enemies tend to attack in waves with little time for recovery between attacks. The basic system isnt too much different from I and II, you collect gold and lumber (no oil this time, no naval battles either) and build with peons/peasants or like units. The main change to the setup is the Upkeep system, which reduces the gold you receive from mining based on your population 41-70 is low and 71-90 is high, in each gold is lost almost like a tax, this makes it more difficult to rush or assemble massive armies without limiting your gold supply.     WarCraft Series Enthralls Millions Globally!

    Where WarCraft III Reign of Chaos ends, World Of Warcraft (the new massive online game) begins. Reign Of Chaos marks a legacy end to the way the game used to be. Those who have played the series over the years know they will still go back to the old versions 1-3 periodically. In itself, WarCraft III is a feat of gaming history. As testament, it is still a current game that is played by millions around the globe. For those who aren't ready to make the super massive online dive for technological or personal reasons - this is the WarCraft you want! SSSIXXX

    Great Game, Great Buy

    This game is a lot of fun. I definitely recommend it if you're into this style of game. It lives up to all of the previous warcraft titles and surpasses them tremendously. The game play is very similar to that of World of Warcraft. I personally prefer this to WOW because it has a beatable story line and a very involving story arc that is easy to follow and fun to play. The expansion pack is worth playing as well. It's just a continuation to a great game. The expansion pack definitely stands up strong against the main game's story line as well. It continues and builds on it successfully.
