You could spend a lifetime looking for a pen that writes smoother or more reliably than the 823, and not find it. More expensive? Yes, but the higher price would be for more gold trim, higher gold content in the nib (doesn’t make it write “better”, just costs more), or ebonite/Urushi body (no impact on writing experience). The 743 writes just as well, but has smaller ink capacity (cartridge/converter).
