Product Information

Jessica Lange stars as army wife Carly Marshall in Tony Richardson's last film, set in the early 1960s. Carly, a very beautiful woman, spices up the drabness of military life with the kind of promiscuity and exhibitionist behavior that has kept her husband, Hank (Tommy Lee Jones), from getting the promotions he's due while embarrassing her children, Glen (Chris O'Donnell) and Chris (Amy Locane), and keeping the family moving from one base to another as Carly wears out their welcome. After their most recent move to a base in Alabama, Carly starts flirting with base commander Gen. Vince Johnson (Powers Boothe) at the officers club and the general suddenly realizes that this would be the perfect time for Hank, an expert on atomic power, to go to Nevada to monitor some underground tests. Although he knows what's going on, Hank must obey, and Vince wastes no time in getting horizontal with Carly. When Hank uncovers evidence that civilians are being exposed to massive doses of radiation by leakage from the underground tests, everyone's life becomes even more complicated. Lange and Jones both do some of the best work of their careers in roles of a richness and complexity more often seen on the stage than in films. Richardson's BLUE SKY is a terrific finale for a unique talent.

    The setting of the movie is a military base. Blue Sky is the code name for a secret military project.

    This is one of my favorite movies. It displays both the betrayal and love between a man and woman. The chemistry between Tommy Lee Jones and Jessica Lange is mesmerizing.

    In this movie set in the 1960s, Jessica Lange plays army wife with bipolar disorder. Her family is living in Hawaii when she causes some trouble and they're transferred to Alabama. (From the beginning, the viewer gets the feeling that the family has been though this many times before.) Once transferred, she begins to cause trouble again--having an affair with her husband's boss, staying up all night in a manic craze, and making a spectacle of herself at base events. When her husband (whom she calls "Daddy", played by Tommy Lee Jones) stumbles upon some nuclear testing sites and begins to make noise about them, he is committed and institutionalized because of his incriminating reports.     Plot Spoiler Warning

    I bought this because I am a fan of Tommy Lee Jones. Jessica Lange was a bit too much to take if one can call that acting. Her husband had been in Mercury, Nevada but had come home due to nuclear devices planted there for testing years ago and he and other pilots saw that is was risky and returned home. She had an affair with the officer in charge, Powers Boothe. He sent her husband back to make sure he was killed while flying over them again. I suggest you by it to see the rest of the story.

    Blue Sky most entertaining movie

    Blue Sky is one of the most entertaining movies I have ever watched. Jessica Lange is a remarkable actress and does that movie so very well. She did such a sexy dance before being thrown into the water. VERY GOOD AND WORTH EVERY CENT I PAID FOR IT!!! She deserved an OSCAR!!

    Very Impressive!

    This movie is very entertaining. I saw it a while ago and wanted to purchase for my collection. After football season is over, there is practically nothing good on TV so I live to be sure that I have great movies in my collection. If you haven't seen this one, give it a try. I also love Tommy Lee Jones so you can't go wrong with this one.
