To combat a virus that is attacking all communication portals within the Republic of the Sphere, players must master 24 campaigns across four planets. A different twist to an old habit
I have to admit that as I am writing this, I have not gotten all the way through the game. I mostly play this at work, and we have been busy during the last 2 weeks, so I haven't logged much time on my DS. Having said that, I have been a fan of the Mech game series since I got a copy of Mechwarrior 2 for my PC years ago, so having it in a handheld platform is way cool! This seemed like my obvious next game purchase after I got a DS. The first game I got was Metroid Prime Hunters at the recommendation of my oldest son. That was the first game I played on the DS, so for better or for worse, it is what I compare to. Actual gameplay is similar to the Mechassault game that came with my son's X-Box. It is a first person shooter, and I like shooters! Unlike the PC versions I had played in the ... I have to admit that as I am writing this, I have not gotten all the way through the game. That was the first game I played on the DS, so for better or for worse, it is what I compare to. Actual gameplay is similar to the Mechassault game that came with my son's X-Box. It is a first person shooter, and I like shooters! Unlike the PC versions I had played in the past, there is no way to run away from a fight and get repaired and rearmed by your mechanics. The only way to get ammo or to get your Mech repaired is to destroy another Mech and run over to where it blew up at. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different from what I was accustomed to. The ability to hack into and control another Mech is something that I am still working on, but it does add to the overall gameplay. There are many times you have to get out of your Mech and hack into something to continue playing. The game plays well, the graphics are good, and everything makes sense, it just gets harder as you go along, as it should. The only real negative issue I have had is that the controls using the stylus are WAY too quick. In the Metroid game, the stylus controls seemed to have a very good match to my movements, and this does not. If you move the stylus slightly your target crosshairs move a whole lot, usually WAY off your target. I have had to play this game using the standard buttons instead. A control setting for sensitivity would have helped this dramatically. I might add that I much prefer using the stylus for any game and that is why I never bought a handheld game system before the DS came out. At the point I am at in the game, there is very little choice of what Mech you can use. Basically it is whatever you can scrounge up or find is what you have available. When you destroy an enemy Mech, you destroy it completely, so there is very little salvage like in the PC games. I have been unable to customize the Mechs I am using at all, which is something I enjoyed in the PC versions. This may change later in the game, I am not sure at this point. The short version is that while this game is not perfect, it is a very good offering. If you like the Mechwarrior or Mechassault games, you should really give this a try. I would even suggest it to anyone who likes a first-person shooter. It has enough puzzles in the game play to keep it from being a matter of just shoot some stuff and call it good, yet not so many that you never get to blow anything up!

Pretty Good Game
This game was bought out of boredom/love of robots and boy was I surprised to find the game was pretty good. The story of the game is generic Battletech scenario of a one man(woman)army versus an actual army. The controls while awkward at first become smooth after a couple of missions. However the hacking mini-game will make you rage towards the end of the game becomes more luck based than actual skill. Replay value is moderate becuase after beating the game you unlock a cheat mode which allows you to give a middle finger to the game allowing you to run around on foot and murder poor unsuspecting mechwarriors. Multiplayer for the game does exist but, you'll never find someone to play with. Final note, the graphics for this game are mixed, while it's one of the best looking games on the DS ... mechassault phantom war review (nintendo ds 2006)

I still feel the nistalgia I did from the original two on the xbox and its still fun to play it just could have been much better a little diapointing. and multiplayer I dont realy no becaouse thers no wifi and it will only play wirelusley if you r friend have a copy of the game I always hate when my friends have to have the game to, to play it its just frustraiting. but the game is still fun I love running in the snow bluwing up buildings and you finaly get checkpoints in the game to save your progress so unlike the orginal when you die you don't have to start all over again.ih you are to close to a building when you blow it up you will die very frustraiting how ever you can yous it to your advantage.so over all the games good but could have been way better hope this helps of and one more thing you cant change the dificalty settings. thanks fo reading my review Ashton

Great Game Control
First off the graphics on this game are amazing for the Ds. The game play is very easy to learn. This game can get very hard which I think is a good thing. Battling your way against tanks, foot soldiers, fixing gunners, and of course other Mechs is a lot of fun, during game play you can get out of your Mech and take control over a bigger badder one. You can even hope into a tank for some long range sniping. For me the best part about this game is the aiming. On previous Ds games 1st person shooters are played by moving around with the d-pad and aiming is done with the touch touch, which is very hard to get the hang of, not to mention the crazy thumb cramps. With this game you move with the d-pad but aiming is done with the action buttons, which makes aiming so much more precise and ... First off the graphics on this game are amazing for the Ds. All around I think this is a awesome game, I wish it made us of the WiFi, but at least it does have multiplayer to link to other local Ds's. I would recommend this game to all.

It is a great game. The graphics are good considering the platform (certainly better than the 1st and 2nd MW games for PC way back when. It would be nice if there was a little more flexibility as far as missions since it is possible to hit dead ends on a tough mission you can't get past, but that's a minor complaint. It also comes with a coupon to get started on the tabletop version by WizKids (another great game, but that's another review).It is a great game.
