It's A Frame-Up For Murder But Who And Why???

This is a very good, film noir type movie. It's a tense, murder mystery with a Hitchockian twist, at the end. The main character gets framed for the murder of a glamorous dame and the chase is on for who done the framing. Seems the cop in charge wants vengeance on our hapless hero, but why?? It's a twisted tale and I will tell no more. It's old Hollywood B & W at its best.

  • Excellent film noir mystery

Wow! This excellent Whodunit held my interest throughout. Carole Landis was perfectly cast as Vicki, a glamorous and ambitious social-climber who is murdered just as she's about to leave New York City for a film career in Hollywood. Betty Grable plays her equally beautiful but more down-to-earth sister, Jill. Jill's boyfriend becomes the prime suspect, but Vicki had several male admirers who seem psychotic and/or weaselly, and then there's the least likely suspect, Jill herself. The title doesn't fit --- there's no onscreen violence and nobody wakes up screaming --- but for fans of 1940s noir, this is a must-see.

  • Life is not always what it should be. Tragedy, Murder & Love!

Good story of a working class girl getting her big break into the better life and leaving people behind, only to pay for it in the end. It isn't who you know, but who you are. I'm not sure if the title really fits this story though. Victor Mature plays a honorable character, which was unexpected especially when he has Betty Grable to taunt him. Betty Grable is protrayed as one of the reasons, that some women were considered creatures. Worth watching.

  • I woke up happy

Great film with lots of twists and turns and even some humor. Victor Mature is in his prime, but the beautiful Betty Grable steals the film. In glorious black and white.

  • "I

I found this film suspenseful and the surprise ending caught me off guard. I liked that. Betty Grable said afterward that her acting was awful and from then on she'd stick to musical comedies. Personally, I enjoyed her in this kind of film.
