About this product

Product Information

While back on Earth, standing trial for their hijacking of the starship Enterprise (see STAR TREK III), Kirk and his crew are thrust into a new adventure. A space probe threatens to destroy the planet if it is not allowed to continue its longstanding communications with a certain species of Earth mammal -- humpback whales. Unfortunately, there is an obstacle to their simple demand; the whales are extinct in the 23rd Century. So Kirk, Spock and the gang travel back in time to San Fransisco, circa 1986, where they battle culture shock, as well as the clock, while trying to corral a few friendly whales to bring back to the future. Academy Award Nominations: 4, including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score.

A good story, a great sound track and some terrific visuals of whales playing at sea. Enjoy!

This is one of the better stories in the Star Trek series. Written, produced and directed by Leonard Nimoy, this tale gets more of the players involved in the story line. When whale-speaking aliens threaten earth because there are no whale-speakers left on earth, Kirk gets the bright idea to go back in time to retrieve some whales to bring back to the current century. So off to 1960s San Francisco they go. Once there we get Uhuru and Chekov roaming the streets of SF asking directions to Alameda "where the nuclear weapons are stored". We get Spock trying to learn how to use 60s profanity in his conversations, we get Kirk fumbling romantic situations w Catherine Hicks, and we get the doctor in a 60s SF hospital complaining about centuries old medical procedures and locking up a surgical ...

    Subliminal version

I found the whale probe with a falo in this version. My surprise showing to my young children. It has a glow to avoid making a good photo.

  • Beam Me Up! Save the Whales!

Star Trek IV has an interesting premise-- the crew has to save the Planet Earth from certain annihilation from a giant probe by traveling back in time to save the humpback whales. Whoa. I am a late convert to Star Trek. I admit, I prepped for 2009's Star Trek by watching Star Trek 2 and one old-school episode. Since then I've also watched Star Trek 3: Search for Spock and now 4: The Voyage Home. This story begins with the crew trying to get back to Earth after finding Spock (wow, just summarized the whole previous movie) who has not regained much of his memory but is still brimming with his characteristic personality. Emotions and humor confusing once more, classic! This movie really gets off the ground when it gets ON the ground....landing on Planet Earth in the 80s complete with ...

  • BEST STAR TREK FILM

Incredibly entertaining Star Trek, masterfully directed by Nimoy himself. This movie brings our earthbound environmental abuse and it's sad consequences back home in a highly engaging drama - that's really a delightful romantic comedy! How the heck did they pull that off? Disc two tells the story. Gene Roddenberry's character's and creative team at their best. You'll love it! And Kirk's famous line (which only Shatner could properly deliver) "No I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space." Priceless! And what comes through re-watching this film after so many years, is the great tribute given to San Francisco by the writers. A very special movie!

  • Star Trek IV is terrific entertainment for the entire family!

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is one of the more enjoyable Star Trek movie adventures. Also has some of the funniest moments of the movie series, and some of the best dialogue too.Example: When Spock says,"Based on the pollution content of the atmosphere,I believe we've arrived at the latter half of the 20th century." Great stuff, and I think it's mostly due to Nicholas Meyer's terrific screenplay, which combines humor and adventure in a perfect sci-fi blend for the masses. Even if you didn't see the other Trek films, this one stands on its own....but it also works well as a continuation of events from earlier movies. The banter between Kirk and Spock is priceless, and well worth the purchase price all by itself. This is another time-travel story where the Enterprise crew travels back in time to ...
