Teenaged Yuji always assumed he was going to leave a full life...until the day he's told by a fiery-haired female warrior who just saved him from a doll-like, time-freezing, people-eating monster that he's already been dead for some time and that he's just a "Torch," a temporary place-holding soul for the recently deceased. Yuji decides to befriend this girl, a self-proclaimed "Flame Haze" named Shana, and joins her in her fight against the Denizens of the Crimson Realm in the afterlife. This collection includes the entirety of the wildly imaginative SHAKUGAN NO SHANA anime series.

    Fun characters make up for lame plotting....

    Okay, I'll admit that the whole background is totally implausible...all the freezing time is small areas, and stuff. And it does take too damned long for the whole story to get going. But I still love this anime, mostly because of the interaction between the characters. Once all of the players get into play, and we see the growth of all of them ( not just the young, but the older characters are also forced by circumstances to examine their long held beliefs ), this series takes off. And though the explanations are easier to understand in English, it's still better to watch in the Japanese with subtitles. Hear Shana go "Shut up, shut up, shut up!" just isn't as fun as "Urusai, Urusai, Urusai!" It's too bad that they insist on gouging the North American audience with so many disc to buy...I ...

    Shakugan no Shana 2008 DVD Box Set, 7-Disc Set

    Shakugan No Shana Shakugan no Shana is based on series of light novels by Yashichiro Takahashi and illustrated by Noizi Ito. It has since adapted into 24 episode anime series and a manga project. Using some elements of mysticism, sci fi and chambara traditions, this anime managed to climb out from typical magical girl with sword genre thanks to good characterization of the principal players in the story. Shakugan No Shana has a pretty complex story line, with various twists. However, I must mention that it is one of my personal favorites. Both seasons of Shakugan No Shana have twenty four episodes each, and there is also a movie and several OVA's based on the series. Shakugan No Shana is one of the best anime I've ever seen honestly, I'm praying that a third season will be released ...

    Great art and an interesting concept make Shana a very watchable series.

    The Shana series has great art and fairly good writing. This DVD set Has great covers and very well done cover box. Good extras, but not many of them. Great episode count, but the division of subplots and story arcs weren't at 100%. Over all 95 to 99 percent sort of sums it up. Not enough formula and cliché to call it not good. Still I couldn't call it great. Most people can watch it and rewatch it. A few would call it great and some would say not good. Most would simply say good recommend it.
