William Forrester (Sean Connery) wrote the "perfect" book fifty years ago. It was his first novel, and it took the literary world by storm. Problem is, it was also his last. For the last fifty years he has been living in the same place but rarely if ever goes out. Having everything he needs delivered, his entire life is looking out the window at the world.What he sees is a basketball court where kids play ball. The neighborhood has changed over the last fifty years too. The kids playing ball are black now. Also, he has become somewhat of a curiosity, constantly looking out the window, even to the point of being a target. Working on a dare, Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown), a neighborhood kid has been challenged to enter the apartment and take something as proof. Forreser surprises him and he ... Inside, Forrester finds a lot of journals with writings and notes, some short stories, etc. Forrester critiqued the writings and corrected and added notes, then left the backpack outside his door. Jamal found it and knocked on his door. An unlikely friendship now begins. William can see promise in Jamal's writings and thought processes. Jamal is a great basketball player and because of his very high grades, catches the eye of an expensive prep school and is offered a scholarship. As it turns out, this was the same school attended by Forrester years ago. Jamal is very intelligent and his writing style is excellent. By now, he has been working with and learning from William. He has also been teaching William that there is a world outside of his windows, and that it is time to move back into the world. The prep school seems to be more interested in Jamal playing ball and winning championships than in standing out academically. A professor accuses Jamal of plagiarism. This professor was a colleague of Forrester years before, and was very jealous of him. Finally, Forester has to show up and support his friend, by verifying his abilities. This is a good movie.

Forgot what a great movie this is!
A friend of mine have never seen this movie and I no longer owned it, but knew that I could find it on eBay. It was definitely a reason I had added it to my collection of favorites.

Finding Forrester one of the best small films ever made
I decided to buy it because I had seen it in the theatre and thought of it was a film that exemplified that in each of us, there is talent, and we should approach that talent with no hesitations and no reservations like Rob Brown's character did in the movie. Sean Connery was a pure artist (exemplifying a great deal of common sense and direction for his new found protege' unlike a lot or today's artists, and was a wonderful catalyst for Brown's character. It was a great movie giving the message that everyone has hope and as long as you have the guts not to be afraid of failure, you can push your talent to unlimited prospectives. Finding Forrester
This is a great Sean Connery movie. If you're a fan of the great Scot, this is a movie to see. Also, Rob Brown's debut performance before hitting it big in Take the Lead opposite of Antonio Banderas, is great. This is a movie that touches the heart and makes you think. Highly recommended to be viewed at least once in one's life.
